Reglazing a bathtub is worth it if your current tub is in good condition and needs to be refinished or reglazed to bring it back to its shiny, smooth glory. While battered bathtubs might need to be refinished, bathtub refinishing is worth it, too, because it can make tubs with surface imperfections, shallow cracks and scratches, and staining look like new. Reglazing a bathtub is less expensive than refinishing, and both are less than the cost of bathtub replacement.

If you don’t caulk your bathtub, then there won’t be a watertight seal between your bathtub and the wall tile surrounding it. As a result, water can seep into the wall and the floor and cause the perfect breeding grounds for mold and mildew. They are usually custom-fit and cost more than reglazing yet don’t last as long.

It is best to wear a respirator during the sanding, painting, and sealing process. It can filter particles, vapors, and fumes that can be toxic to breathe. So it’s better to be safe and protect your lungs during this project.

We don’t recommend using a tub liner to cover up cracks in a bathtub. Instead, you should repair the cracks yourself if you have the experience or hire a pro. Cracks may seem like small surface imperfections, but they can lead to much larger issues, so repair them as soon as you can.
