"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

"We knew we either needed to paint or put on vinyl siding, so contacted several companies to compare prices.  VantagePoint's price was one of the best we found.  The work was started on time, but it took longer to finish than we were expecting.  When it was finished though, we were very  pleased with the look.
One wall was rather difficult to cover because it was impossible to remove all the shingles that were on that side without tearing out one of the layers of the original wall which made the wall somewhat uneven.  Due to the fact that some of the original wall was missing, we had them install two layers of insulation which seems to keep those rooms as warm as the others.  Several weeks after completion, there was a very strong wind which blew off a horizontal piece from that wall.  I called Katie, and the installer came by about 10 day later and reinstalled it.  It has withstood the strong winds since then.
They also installed a new triple pane window in our bedroom.  The window we had before was only double pain and just did not keep the cold out like we wanted it to.  Last winter I had to go down below the house and turn the damper on the furnace duct so more heat would go into the bedroom.  For summer time, I turned it back to the original position.  This winter we did not need to turn it, but just left it like it was.  We also like the looks and quality of the window.
It took a long time for the window to come which held up the completion of the siding as the installers would not finish the siding job on that wall until the window was installed.  Matt kept telling us that it should be delivered the next week.  That went on for several weeks before it finally arrived.  I noticed in other reviews that we are not the only ones who had that experience.  Perhaps VP should use another supplier or else just tell customer up front to expect a long wait.  I would rather wait though than have a lesser quality window installed.
There were a few minor negatives.  It wasn't always easy to get a live voice or a prompt reply to our phone calls.  Many days the team worked for only a few hours or didn't come at all.  Some of the workers had to be reminded to keep materials in the driveway and not on the front lawn.  One or two of them would occasionally work without their shirts on, but the temperature was over 100 degrees.
The siding job started on the 25th of June, and everything was finished including the window installation on August 8.  Though Matt did not came every day as we thought, he did come several times during the project to inspect the work.  If he found something he did not like he had the installers correct it.
Overall, we are very pleased with our vinyl siding and the new triple pane window.

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.

Yes, you can use cinder blocks for many purposes, including retaining walls, foundations, garage walls, and fences. Building a cinder block retaining wall costs between $60 and $200 per linear foot, including materials and professional labor. For a 30-foot-long retaining wall, the cost ranges from $1,800 to $6,000.

If you've decided you'd like to skip the cost of restoring a brick exterior wall after considering whether you should repair or replace brick on your house, you can consider installing fiber cement siding over brick for a cost of $2 to $6 per square foot. When done properly, cement siding over brick offers a durable, low-maintenance option that can actually reduce your home's energy costs. It's also attractive. However, improper installation or installation over heavily compromised brick can cause water damage.

Sand and gravel are two suitable options for filling behind a retaining wall. If you’re building your own retaining wall, you’ll complete this part of the process—known as backfilling—after you finish laying the blocks. Make sure not to skip it—otherwise, you could wind up with drainage issues, which can cause your retaining wall to collapse.
