The heart and soul of our company is our year round garden center, conveniently located on Highway 54 in La Harpe, KS. Inside our doors, you will find everything you need for a successful gardening season. Garden seed, onions, and potatoes start filling the bins in early spring, ready to be taken home by the next eager gardener. TLC carries a fine selection of chemicals and amendments to help your garden along. Also inside is our gift shop full of garden accessories, fountains, and pottery of all shapes, sizes, and colors, ready to be filled with the perfect plants from our greenhouses. Outside you will find a wide array of shade trees, fruit trees, and shrubs. Once in the greenhouse, you will be welcomed with a rainbow of colorful annuals, hanging baskets and perennials. The majority of our vegetables are started by us from seed and we are proud to have the best plants around. Our concrete pathways and carts make shopping a breeze and our helpful staff will assist you if any questions or needs arise. TLC also has bulk landscape materials such as topsoil, mulch, and river rock. These items can either be loaded into your truck or delivered directly to your project for a small fee. One of our favorite times of the year is autumn, with the cooler weather and beautiful fall foliage. TLC has fall garden mums in variety of colors and sizes, along with pansies, flowering kale, spring bulbs, and garden vegetable seed. In the winter, TLC becomes a Christmas wonderland, full of fresh cut Christmas trees, wreaths and dazzling Christmas decorations and gifts throughout our gift shop.

The answer to whether or not you need to get a permit before you start your driveway can vary widely based on local ordinances and the scope of your driveway ideas. In most urban and suburban areas, a permit is needed before building a new driveway to ensure that a homeowner is using safe materials and proper drainage practices while designing and constructing a new driveway. In some rural areas, a homeowner may not be required to apply for a permit. When building a new driveway on your own, always check with your local building department to see if you need to request a permit. When hiring a driveway contractor, verify that the right permits are being used before driveway construction begins.

Maintaining a driveway depends on the material your driveway is made of. Concrete and asphalt should be sealed to protect against water and freeze-thaw cycles. Cracks and expansion joints should be filled with a flexible polyurethane caulk or asphalt sealer. Before you apply a sealant to your driveway, consider pressure washing the surface. It will take off any loose sealant and any grime that might have caused a stain. Sealing over dirt and stains will trap it under the sealer.

If you live in colder climates, consider using sand rather than salt to de-ice. Sand helps melt the snow and ice without speeding up the freezing and unthawing process of your driveway, which helps prevent cracks from forming from the constant fluctuation of temperatures.

About 6 inches between the edges of each stone in the sequence is common. Rather than sticking to 6 inches, some people measure the length of the entire path and adjust the space between stepping stones a couple of inches wider or narrower than 6 inches to make sure the entire path fits the length perfectly without having to cut a paver at either end. Other people prefer a design with a 24-inch distance from the center of one stone to the center of the next stone, which matches the stride of an average-sized person.

If your current driveway is full of potholes, cracks, and inconsistencies, it's best to remove your old driveway and start from scratch. That being said, concrete resurfacing and asphalt resurfacing are cost-effective options if the underlying structure is still strong enough to support your vehicle but just needs an extra layer to prolong its life.

The stones do not work well on uneven ground. If the stones are not buried into the ground and made level upon installation, they almost certainly will shift or crack on uneven ground. Additionally, rainwater or water from sprinklers can run under the edge of an uneven paver, causing erosion. In a freeze and thaw cycle, trapped water under the paver can cause the problem to worsen by shifting the stepping stones around. Use a bubble level to make sure the ground under each paver is as even as possible, even if the nearby ground is uneven.
