"Jerry and his crew did a great job drying out my basement. My sump pump failed and I was having problems getting anyone in to help me. I didn't know we had a Steam Way service in town, but after trying several local businesses that were referred to me and them all turning me down, I went to Google and found the 1-800 number. I told them my situation and they told me they would have someone contact me asap--I was not hopeful as Independence had had an abundance of rain and everyone seemed to be already tied up. Jerry returned my all within 20 minutes, and while he was busy too, he told me what to do to prevent damage if I could manage and said he would be there by 4:30 that day. When he stopped, he was so concerned and professional. I immediately felt relief--someone finally to help! I went to the basement with him and watched as he tested my walls to see how far the water had been siphoned up into the sheet-rock; it was easy to hear and see the tester reveal where fans would be needed and where they would not. By 7:30, Jerry and his crew had taken off my floor boards and installed 14 blowers and a dehumidifier. You could tell the crew was dead tired, but they were still so professional and genuinely concerned abut my issues, I was able to sleep that night knowing my basement would be ok! The blowers were left in my basement for 3 days with Jerry checking back everyday to see how the drying was coming. The bill came and it was within guidelines of my insurance coverage and my insurance had no hesitation covering the amount. Jerry and his crew did a great job, and I would recommend them for any of the services they offer."

"I had a great experience with this small flooring business from start to finish. The communication was clear, they showed up on time, and the workmanship was excellent. The floors look fantastic and were installed with real attention to detail. You can tell they take pride in their work. The only small reason it’s not a full 5 stars is a slight delay in scheduling, but it was well worth the wait. Overall, I’d absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for quality flooring done by reliable, skilled professionals."

"The man who came, cleaned out the back of the refrigerator. He was even kind enough to let me clean the floor when he moved the refrigerator out. When he got done, my refrigerator purred. He was wonderful. I also liked the fact that I sent in my request online on a Sunday and my refrigerator was fixed before noon on Monday. My first call with this company and I am very very pleased."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

It’s better to lift and set down furniture; sliding it across the floor is more likely to cause damage to both the floor and the furniture itself. For very heavy items, consider using a dolly with rubber wheels. It is possible to purchase sliders designed specifically for gliding furniture across floors, but you still risk causing permanent damage to flooring if you use them.

While not always required, experts recommend removing baseboards before removing old carpet and installing a new one. This practice leads to a smoother process and a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. Removing the baseboards allows for a seamless carpet installation without the risk of damaging either the carpet or the trim. It also provides a good opportunity to repaint or stain the baseboards and inspect the underlying wall for any issues. If you prefer a quicker option, you can carefully cut the old carpet along the edge of the baseboards, but this may result in a less polished installation for the new carpet.

Whether you install flooring before or after kitchen cabinets depends primarily on the type of flooring you are using. For materials like hardwood, tile, and sheet flooring, the best practice is to install the flooring first. This ensures the cabinets are installed at the correct height and on a stable surface. However, you should not install cabinets on top of floating floors, such as laminate or luxury vinyl plank (LVP). These types of flooring need room to expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes. Placing heavy cabinets on top can restrict this movement, potentially causing the floor to buckle and making the cabinets unstable. For floating floors, install the cabinets first and then lay the flooring up to them. Other reasons to consider installing cabinets before the flooring include saving money on materials (since you won't need flooring under the cabinets) and avoiding potential damage to your new floor during cabinet installation. Additionally, installing cabinets directly on the subfloor might prevent voiding your flooring's warranty.

The best underlayment for carpet on concrete is a sponge rubber underlayment. This type of carpet padding is durable enough to endure wear and tear on hard concrete yet soft enough to provide comfort underfoot. It also creates insulation from sound and temperature, providing warmth despite the concrete’s cold surface.

You can tell a carpet is good quality if it’s made of a soft, durable material and has a good face weight and density. When comparing two similar carpets, the higher the face weight, the more durable the carpet tends to be. The same goes for carpet density. A higher density of two similar carpets often indicates better quality. The ideal carpet face weight and density values depend on the carpet material and type.
