"This review is a long time coming, but it does give me perspective since we have been living with these changes for a while now.The first project was started in late 2013 and finished in  January 2014. It consisted of moving the laundry room to the second floor of our home. The master bedroom is adjoined to the fourth bedroom where we decided to enlarge that room's closet for our washer and dryer, closer to all our bedrooms. The original laundry room was converted to a pantry. The other part of this project was enlarging our master bedroom walk-in closet. It was very narrow and divided into two areas by a wall and door. Young Remodeling managed the project well and had excellent contractors. They provided excellent quality  workmanship in all aspects of the project including extending hardwood flooring into the pantry, tiling the new laundry room floor, installing bi-fold doors, refinishing the ceilings and painting the walls and trim, building the pantry shelves, rerouting electrical and water services to the new laundry location and more. Total cost was about $25,000.
The second project was the kitchen remodel. This project was suppose to start in August 2014, the cabinetry had been received and they were ready to start demolition when a medical issue arose that meant we had to postpone the project. Young was very gracious to hold our new cabinetry in storage until we could restart the project in April, 2015. We had a new kitchen by the end of May. The project consisted of a radically different layout. We worked with Young's designer to come up with a great plan. They provided lots of drawings and paid attention to details to optimize our new kitchen. All of the cabinets were replaced and Young installed all of our new appliances. They re-stained the hardwood floor that extends into our family room. They rewired the kitchen and moved the canned light fixtures to better meet the needs of the new layout and installed our new pendant light fixtures over our new island. They refinished our ceiling, painted and the trim and walls. They figured out the best way to vent the new cook top from it's new location. They installed the new granite counter tops, the new exterior door and a large window. In the family room, in addition to re-staining the hardwood floor, they painted the walls and trim, refinished the ceiling and replace our original wood mantle with a stone mantle. The quality of their work was again outstanding. Both Jenny in the office and Rex in the field were very easy to work with. Rex came back recently(September) and fixed a cabinet problem and converted our pantry shelves from adjustable to fixed, for heavier loading at no charge! Total cost was about $60,000. This did not include the new appliances, window, sink and faucet or pendant light fixtures.
So, now over a 1 1/2 years from the first project and 4 months since the kitchen remodel... we love it all and wouldn't change a thing! We are now working on a list of changes we want to make in other parts of or house and Young Remodeling will be our first choice.

"This happened months ago, but I wanted to make sure to give my review although it was late.
I saw a deal on Angie's list for home organization when I was 7 months pregnant.  I contacted the company prior to purchasing to see if they would be able to help me.  I explained I would need help actually coordinating my move and then setting in, unpacking, and organizing since I would have a new baby.  I spoke with Kristi who was very nice and confident they would be able to help me with my move which was actually months away.
Once the moving day was approaching I got back in contact with Kristi, who put me in contact with Ann to get the process going.  Ann assigned Angie to my project and scheduled a day for her to come and meet with me to discuss the move process.  In the meeting I was very clear what I needed, what the schedule would be and I made it very clear that I needed her to step in and take charge.  On moving day, Angie had not showed up so I called Ann.  I was told Angie would not be coming and that I was supposed to have been called the day before to let me know.  Ann did come in her place, although an hour or so after we were supposed to get started.  Ann tried her best to jump in, but there was so much prep that I had gone over with Angie that the whole process was on a downward sprial after that.  Pair that with a new baby and I was very overwhelmed and stressed.
I had to spend more time  re-explaining the process to Ann.  I also had spent a lot of time with Angie going over materials that would be needed for the organization process (bins, labels, shelf liner, drawer organizers) that were never supplied.  I took it upon myself to get shelf liner early that morning.  Ann took a lot of time to install these, but instead of complaining about how it was the wrong material, I wish she would have stepped in, recommended the correct material, and took charge of the situation.  I am not an organizer, did not know the best product - this is why I hired the organization people.
The "organization process."  itself left a lot to be desired.  I am a very organized person, just didn't have the time to get it done so I had high expectations.  I have to say there was A LOT unpacking to be done.  I purchased so many hours but let them know I would be willing to pay as much as I needed to get more hours and get it done right. The company didn't do much besides unpack boxes.  There was little to no organization done.   I would like to take a second to compliment Helen.  She came in on day two, took charge, and gave me recommendation on how to better organize my closet or what she could do if she came back.  HSe only did the closet, but if she had been involved from the beginning I think I might have been happier.
At the end of the hours I purchased I was so frustrated that I wanted to just get them out and start getting things done on my own.  One of the things we discussed from the beginning was removing all donations items, boxes and packing materials.  Anyone who has moved knows how annoying these can be post move.  It was such a chore to get The Organization People to remove the boxes and paper from the move.  This was scheduled a few days later.  There was much left behind in the house that I still had to deal with.  In addition I had to handle all of the donation items myself.
When I received the bill from Ann, I had issues which I contacted her about.  They tried to charge me for Angies time and her consultation.  I refused to pay for this as I was never told of a consultation fee.  In addition the couple of hours Angie did work was prepping for everything I had to reexplain to Ann.  She made my move very stressful and Although Ann said she was only charging me for what Angie's cost was to the company I felt they should suffer, not me, for hiring an irresponsible employee.
Ann did get back to me and offered to waive the fees in order to have another chance to come and make things right.  This was very professional of them.  At the time, I was so disappointed in their work and upset about the whole process that I wanted to just pay them and work with a new company that I felt could actually complete the job to my satisfaction.  I will be finding another company to help me with the rest of the organizing at the house.

"I met Jill at our home and she took measurements and photos of our sons' room. We talked briefly about my ideas for the space. She provided several concept boards, for window treatments, furniture, and an overall "look" for the rooms. She also provided us with floor plans for each room. She brought paint colors, fabric selections, etc. Our first job with Jill was our sons' room. For the playroom, she had some pretty unique ideas that were right in line with the contemporary- but not too modern- look we wanted. She helped me with tips on doing some of the decorative painting myself, but also provided a few resources in case we wanted to hire the job out. She also helped me coordinate a subcontractor who handled a set of beautiful custom blinds. Jill tells me that in some cases she handles all the shopping, but that's part of the fun for me so she provided a list of links and stores for the items she chose. She gave a few choices for almost every item- budget and higher end. That allowed me to meet my budget while still getting some showstopper items, because we were able to save in other areas. Within a few weeks the room came together and got rave reviews after I posted the before and after photos on Facebook. And of course our visitors were amazed at the transformation. In the interim, we were redoing our guest bathroom on our own, and Jill was able to come into the project to help us choose tiles, wall colors, and vanity choices. A quick job that turned out really well considering the turn around time. A few months later we hired Jill again to rethink our living room and dining room. We were on a much more limited budget for both rooms but wanted to see what she could come up with considering some challenges in both the shape of the rooms and that I wanted to integrate some antique pieces we already owned. She came up with a brilliant look that blended our older pieces with a contemporary and clean look and we came in well under budget. Working with Jill was a lot of fun and we expect to continue to work with her to refine the look of our home. When I was considering hiring an interior designer I was worried about my low budget and lack of experience hiring someone to make these kind of choices for me. But it turned out to be the best decision we've ever made for our home because she allowed us to transform each area well under budget and much more quickly than we ever could have done on our own (well, we would have taken forever to make a decision on every item!). My favorite rooms in the house are the ones she's worked on with us. I just feel so happy that we found Jill Seidner."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Porcelain tiles can last 60 years or longer. With high-quality tiles and proper installation, your porcelain tiles may even outlive you, making them well worth the initial investment.

To help your porcelain tiles last longer, you should clean and maintain them regularly. You don’t need any harsh chemicals to get the job done. Rather, use a cloth, hot water, and mild detergent. And don’t forget to learn how to clean floor tile grout, as that’s just as important as tile maintenance.

It’s not necessarily normal for tiles to lift, although it’s one of the common issues people may have with their tile flooring. Tiles correctly installed by pros with expansion joints should not lift over time. However, if the installation was done poorly, you might see tiles tenting or lifting as the house settles. This is more common in high-moisture areas with extreme temperatures.

For glass tile, you want to use unsanded grout. Sanded grout is a stronger and grittier cement grout that is great for installing tiles with wider gaps and into joints. However, it is susceptible to scratching glass tile and is more difficult to use in thinner gaps. Unsanded grout, while more expensive, is easier to fit between thin gaps and is less harsh on delicate materials, like glass tile.

Glass tiles are among the most difficult to install. This is because their transparency makes the adhesive visible, and any imperfections on the opposite side are also likely to be visible. Glass tiles also must be handled carefully during installation, as they are prone to scratching. For these reasons, glass tiles often require professional installation to get the most out of their beauty and unique look.

On average, tiling a bathroom involves about 12 hours of labor, usually spread over two to three days to accommodate prep work and curing times. A professional tiler can often complete the installation in 6 to 8 hours, whereas a DIYer might take 10 to 16 hours. The total project time is influenced by factors like the bathroom layout, tile type, and necessary prep work, such as removing old tile. The process includes specific timelines for different areas; for example, tiling a floor takes about six hours, while a shower area can take six to ten hours. It is essential to allow for adequate curing time—typically 24 hours each—for the mortar, grout, and caulk, which is why the project extends over several days.
