"We were looking to get our old deck torn down and a new one put up with a roof over the top. The quote we got for our project was very reasonable. Throughout the whole process he and his team were very meticulous in making sure the build was done right. They were very friendly and kept a pretty clean job site and didn't litter our yard with construction material. Every step of the way I was impressed with their work, their speed and their professionalism."

"Very well. They are craftsmen. Put up plastic barriers to keep down the dust in the rest of the house. They did a wonderful job. Our new bath looks beautiful. His designer helped me turn my ideas into real world structures. The materials they used and the workmanship of their installation is first class. They are a little more expensive than some but they can do all the things you want them to and do them correctly. We are very pleased with their work.

"The siding and insulation projects have been completed.  The other two projects will take place after our daughter and her family completes the construction of a new house and moves out of our house.  The fact that my wife and I were not living in the house during the insulation and siding projects made it more difficult for us to interact with John?s crew and crew leader, Ryan.  However, we were, and are very happy with the work they performed.  It was obvious that they take pride in their work and wanted the end product to be completed to our satisfaction, and theirs.  As an example, Ryan contacted me to ask if I wanted new lights installed around the house rather that replace the lights that were removed during the removal of the old siding.  I had not given any thought about new lights but obviously quickly decided I did not want the old lights reinstalled.  There were other instances in which Ryan and his crew could have done things easier, but took the time to make sure that the work was done right.

My roof was replaced in June 2012.  I also wanted new guttering with gutter guard installed.  I was told I should wait and have the new guttering installed after my new siding was installed.  Butler Enterprises does not install guttering.  However, John subcontracted the guttering installation and his crew did install the gutter guard.   I was happy with the guttering installation and very impressed with the gutter guard John installed.  In the past I?ve had to clean out my guttering several times a year.  Based on my views of the new gutter guard, I don?t see how I?ll ever have that problem again.

After all the work was completed, there were a couple of minor issues that needed to be corrected.  For example, the new motion activated lights I purchased were not adjusted quite right.  Ryan was there the same day or the next day to fix the problems.  My wife and I are very pleased with the work performed by Butler Enterprises and we will have them do the additional inside projects after our daughter has moved out of our house.  We have had several comments from our neighbors regarding how nice the house looks now."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Per the International Code Council, walk-in shower floors should have a minimum slope of 1/4-inch per foot (or a 2% slope) towards the drain. The slope should be no steeper than 1/2-inch per foot (or a 4% slope). This helps safely direct water into the drain rather than all over your bathroom.

No, when done correctly, removing the tile shouldn’t damage the subfloor. However, if there was pre-existing damage to the subfloor from standard use or lack of maintenance, the subfloor may need repairs. For example, if the contractors notice mold growth on the subfloor or an uneven surface, you may need more extensive services before installing new tile.

If you DIY tile removal, remove the tiles one step at a time, individually removing the tile, grout, and mortar to prevent unnecessarily damaging the subfloor. Depending on the age of your home, consider having a professional inspect the subfloor to ensure it’s in good enough condition to lay new tile.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.

Your floors should be completely level for tile, otherwise you risk damaging the tiles in the future. When there are even small gaps or hills in the subfloor beneath the tile, this puts more pressure on the tile when you walk around on the floor. With repeated traffic, the tiles are at risk of cracking, and you’ll have to deal with tile repairs sooner than if the floor was completely level.

Yes, tile floor removal is a physically demanding project that takes between eight and 12 hours per 100 square feet. It also requires protective gear and closing the area off with construction-grade plastic sheeting to avoid dust and damage to other parts of your home.
