Two Dads Construction Partnership with Insurance My friend/co-worker and I both do odd jobs or handyman services on the side of full-time employment. We'll do both large and small jobs. He and I will both be available to do the work outside of normal working hours with increased availability of the job. We are specifically looking for jobs dealing with the following: Flooring / Tile / Carpet / Wood Drywall Minor Electrical Work Painting Decking Wood fencing Mowing Landscaping Light concrete work Baseboard/Trim/Crown molding Entryway/Door work Light and ceiling fan fixtures Light plumbing Framing Demolition Kitchen Renovations Bathroom Renovations Insulation We are honest, hardworking, straightforward, and efficient. We are open to all jobs however. Most we can say is no. To build customer relationships in the area, we are doing free estimates. We are fair on pricing and will work with customers. While building your deck, you might come across something called the four-inch sphere rule. Essentially, this railing requirement for a deck states that a four-inch ball should not be able to fit through any gap in the deck railings. The gap between spindles and between the decking and the bottom of the railing must be less than four inches to prevent small children or pets from squeezing through the gap.

Several types of porches are available to meet your needs and style preferences. Some common porch types include:

You can either nail or screw deck boards according to your preference. We recommend using 3-inch galvanized deck screws in this guide because screws offer superior holding powder over time. If you’re using screws, you can minimize the risk of cracking the boards by drilling small pilot holes before securing the boards to the deck joists.

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro. 

The cost to install a porch column typically runs between $300 and $600, although it can range as low as $300 or as high as $2,500. Most homeowners will pay about $400 for a porch column. The materials you choose and whether the column is ornamental or load-bearing will impact the final cost.
