"I knew that I was going to need very good help with this water heater replacement. The old one was 22 years old and had a lot of sediment in it. Also the location was difficult to get to. Jack sheduled the appointment to fit my schedule. Brad and Mickey arrived promptly and tackled the situation. As expected, the drain was clogged and the tank was way too heavy to lift out without draining. When using air pressure failed, they pulled out a shop vac, jerry-rigged a small hose on the end and slowly suck out enough water to allow the tank to be lifted out. They're one of the best crews I've ever had working for me. I have my mechanic, my electrician, and now I have my plumbers. I'll never use anyone else and I highly recommend them."

A garage conversion typically takes between four and eight weeks, depending on the garage’s size and the project’s complexity. For a detached garage conversion, you may not experience much impact on daily life while it’s under construction, whereas an attached garage conversion can disrupt daily life quite significantly, given its proximity to the rest of your living space. 

Having a garage installed certainly adds to the value of your home. The consideration is not whether it adds value, but for many, they want to know if adding a garage yields a return on their investment or ROI. While garages can add anywhere from 5% to 20% of the total value of your property, that doesn’t mean that they return 5% to 20% of the money invested in building them. Most homeowners build garages for a purpose but know that you can recover your investment when you sell or refinance.   

The smallest size a standard 2-car garage can be is 20 feet by 20 feet, so at these dimensions, you could reasonably expect to fit two cars inside. However, it’s going to be a tight fit, especially if you have larger SUVs or pickup trucks. For smaller cars, 20 x 20 should be plenty for parking and some space to maneuver around the cars. A larger garage size would be better to ensure you have room to open the doors and transport groceries or other items around the cars.

We recommend plywood and solid wood. Particleboard and MDF (medium-density fiberboard) are often too weak to hold significant loads, and could sag or deform under pressure. Plywood or solid wood are meant to last, and can handle the weight of several large items. If you want to spend a little more for a moisture-resistant material, you can consider using steel.

While the primary purpose of a garage may be to create a secure, weatherproof space to park your vehicles, there are other reasons to consider building one. A garage can increase your home’s value, for one thing.

Having a garage also gives you a bit of extra storage and possibly living space. You can build a two-story garage and use the upper area as a rec room or lounge space. If you finish the second floor of the garage, you may even be able to rent it out.
