"Awesome job was done on every project I requested. Painter was very professional and meticulous, absolutely beautiful results. I will hire this company again to do additional projects. The drywall/ ceiling repair is so good you would never know their where holes patched. There was no messy clean up to do and work area was left very clean."

"The Stevens team is very easy to work with. I was pleasantly surprised to find a drywall contractor who would consider my (one room) job. Upfront communication was very clear, the work was done efficiently, and the end result looks great."

"Wow. Good contractors are hard to find, but when you do and they do an amazing job, it's worth posting and this is one of those companies, I would hire again and recommend. Got a quote on Friday morning and had the basement ceiling installed on Monday. Excellent job, professional and as I found out, drywall is very messy. After Speedy Drywall left my house, you would never have known they were there. They laid out plastic from their truck - down my long sidewalk and down the basement stairs, into the basement where the work was completed. Thank you Speedy Drywall"

"The drywall repair was great but they did some tile work and it’s cracking and just looks horrible. The estimator she was very nice and her husband did great drywall work. They told me they weren’t great at tile I should have just hired a tile pro for that part of the project."

"We hired Masters Painting & Drywall for a few simultaneous projects: 1) Repair of water-damaged drywall due to a basement flood, 2) Repair of miscellaneous botched drywall repairs by a previous person, and 3) Painting of our entire basement after all repairs were completed. The project included a stairway and four basement rooms (office, living room, bathroom, and misc room). Masters was on-time, every time. The project lasted about 5 days. We and Masters set the expectations of work quality, organization, and scheduling right from the start. The process was efficient and orderly: on-site review of the work, prompt quotation, paint selection, and project execution. We were certainly happy with the quality of work done and the time to complete the project. We would definitely use them again on another drywall repair and/or painting project."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You can paint over drywall mud about 24 hours after application, but the exact timing depends on factors like humidity, temperature, and the thickness of the mud. For the best results, ensure the mud is completely dry to the touch and has changed from a darker gray to a lighter, chalky white. Don’t forget to sand and prime the drywall surface before you paint to create a smooth, even finish.

If your home was built before the 1940s and was not remodeled in the past 50 or so years, you probably have plaster walls. Aside from assuming, there are some practical ways to tell if you have plaster walls, including the following: If you knock on the wall and it feels solid, not hollow, if you can’t insert a thumbtack easily, if there are cracks that look like spiderwebs, or if your home has curved, arched, or swirled walls, doorways, or window openings.

If you have an unfinished basement or attic, you could examine the backs of any finished walls to check, too.

Whether you can reuse a drywall anchor depends on its type, material, and how it is removed. Plastic anchors, such as expansion or self-drilling types, are generally considered single-use because they are designed to expand and are likely to break or become deformed upon removal. Metal anchors, like toggle bolts, are more durable and can often be reused if they are not damaged during extraction. However, with toggle bolts, the toggle mechanism can fall inside the wall when the bolt is removed, making it difficult to retrieve. If an anchor is damaged or must be cut for removal, it cannot be reused regardless of its material.

Beadboard is a decorative element and lacks the structural integrity of drywall. It cannot hold much weight and is not meant to be used as an insulator or moisture barrier, like drywall is. In almost all cases, beadboard is placed over an existing wall surface which, in modern days, is usually drywall, but decades ago could have been wood paneling.

Drywall is safe to cut as long as you follow proper procedures, such as wearing personal protective equipment and using the right tools to score and cut the drywall. When cutting new drywall, it can release dust with silica and other compounds that could pose health risks. Leave cutting drywall to the pros, or wear a high-quality respiratory mask, goggles, and other PPE when handling drywall.
