"Unfortunately I just realized I failed to review Stevens Drywall after we hired them last year. After hanging 110 sheets of drywall (3200sq ft) we decided it was in our best interest to hire out the finishing. Bill and his crew were amazing. When I called for an estimate, he actually answered his phone and an appointment was scheduled for the next day. I was very pleasantly surprised - not only that he showed but he showed up exactly when he said he would. He was very candid and honest in his recommendations for the final prep we needed to do prior to his crew starting the work. His estimate was in line with what we expected. They did a great job and finished in the 5 days he estimated. I highly recommend!"

"Great work! Andrew clearly knows what he’s doing. I was nervous because of prior experiences with other vendors ... wish I’d known about Andrew for those drywall projects. The ceiling repair job he did for us, though small, was meticulously done."

"IC Drywall offered the most competing quote by far for our drywall repair and install basement job. They were flexible with our scheduling needs, and very communicative. The job was done quickly and professionally as well. I would highly recommend them for your drywall install or repair needs."

"The drywall repair was great but they did some tile work and it’s cracking and just looks horrible. The estimator she was very nice and her husband did great drywall work. They told me they weren’t great at tile I should have just hired a tile pro for that part of the project."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Whether a drywall anchor can be reused depends on its material, type, and the method of removal. Plastic anchors, including expansion and self-drilling types, are generally designed for single use as they tend to break or deform upon removal. Metal anchors, such as toggle bolts, are more durable and may be reusable if they are not damaged during extraction. However, with toggle bolts, the toggle piece can fall into the wall cavity when the bolt is removed, making it difficult to retrieve. If an anchor is damaged during removal, for instance by having its head cut off, it cannot be reused regardless of the material.

Depending on how much adhesive was used as well as the strength of the adhesive, you may have some drywall damage when removing a mirror. You can typically repair most drywall damage if it’s small by sanding the damaged area, applying spackle to smooth the damaged section so it’s flush with the rest of the wall, and repainting the area.

Drywall is safe to cut as long as you follow proper procedures, such as wearing personal protective equipment and using the right tools to score and cut the drywall. When cutting new drywall, it can release dust with silica and other compounds that could pose health risks. Leave cutting drywall to the pros, or wear a high-quality respiratory mask, goggles, and other PPE when handling drywall.

The two most common drywall thicknesses for ceilings are 1/2-inch and 5/8-inch. For most standard residential applications, 1/2-inch drywall is sufficient and widely used. It provides adequate support and is lighter and easier to handle during installation compared to thicker sheets. However, 5/8-inch drywall is often used for specific cases where additional benefits are needed. It is heavier but provides superior sound dampening and fire resistance. You should consider using 5/8-inch drywall for ceilings in commercial buildings, between a garage and a living space, or above a finished basement to meet building codes or for enhanced soundproofing.

Choose a drill bit that is the size of the screws of the anchors you will use. You aren’t drilling through metal or concrete—hopefully—so any standard twist, wooden or all-purpose drill bit will work fine. It’s also important to have a screwdriver capable of drilling through the drywall and into the stud. The good news is most available drills, even the older ones, can do this with no issue.
