"Victor did an excellent job of replacing drywall and texture in our 1st floor condominium. The continuous area spanned our kitchen, entryway, living room and dining room. About half the ceiling had been removed due to water damage, and the remainder needed to be prepared to accept new texturing. All walls and ceiling in the same space received new paint. Once our damaged flooring is replaced. This 20+ year-old condo will look better than new. Victor Collins (ABC Drywall and Painting Service) will be a go to resource for drywall and painting in the future."

"The drywall and ceiling repairs look great. Kevin was here both days on time and was finished when expected. He covered and protected surrounding areas and furniture while he worked. Cleaned up and put everything back when he was done. Mr Bowersock has many years of experience and it shows."

Customers say: Quick response

"I had Home Finishers replace a foot of drywall in my basement. The repair looks great. You can tell he is very experienced with drywall and other home repair. Additionally, Eric of Home Finishers was really easy to contact, communicated really well with me, and provided the services in a timely manner. I would definitely recommend him to do a similar job or other home repair."

"The drywall repair was great but they did some tile work and it’s cracking and just looks horrible. The estimator she was very nice and her husband did great drywall work. They told me they weren’t great at tile I should have just hired a tile pro for that part of the project."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You may need to replace drywall because of smoke damage. If the drywall is covered in soot, you may be able to clean it, but it will require a lot of time and effort. You could spend hours cleaning the drywall only to find there is more damage and it needs to be replaced anyway. It’s usually easier and safer to remove the smoke-damaged drywall and replace it.

Drywall can get wet and dry out without sustaining permanent damage, but only if the water damage is minor. If you have a small leak and are quick to correct the issue and set up blower fans and dehumidifiers, your drywall should dry out. If the leak is persistent, the drywall becomes totally waterlogged, or mold begins forming on the drywall, you should remove and replace it.

You can skim coat plaster, but it’s better to repair the plaster itself. A skim coat is a thin coat of drywall joint compound spread over the surface of a wall. The result is a flat finish that looks pleasing, but part of the appeal of plaster is its imperfections and aesthetic. Skim coating is best when limited to drywall applications.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

Plaster is denser, harder, and more porous than drywall, so it absorbs moisture differently. This means you’ll often need more prep work, such as thorough sanding, patching, and priming with a high-quality bonding primer. Additionally, you may need more coats of paint to achieve even coverage. While the process takes more time, it helps ensure a durable and professional-looking result.
