"Installing paneling and trim in the dining room. The foreman on the job was very professional and ideas on some ways that we could do this. Overall the job came out fine, on time and right at budget. We would have no problem recommending or hiring this company again. We have hired people in the past that would be late, not show up for the job, and not complete the job. All-American Express Solutions we’re on time and completed the job and when I had questions responded to me very quickly after the job was completed. Very happy with their work"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Regular sealing, crack filling, and professional inspections help extend pavement lifespan and prevent costly repairs.

When asphalt cures, it typically changes from a very dark black hue to a lighter, more matte gray color. Cured asphalt also won’t be tacky or sticky to the touch or emit any odors from the asphalt mix. Additionally, the surface of fully cured asphalt won’t deform under any pressure.

The average lifespan of an asphalt driveway ranges from 15 to 30 years, while concrete driveways last between 20 and 30 years, depending on several factors. Extreme temperature changes, cold weather, poor maintenance, and heavy traffic can all shorten the lifespan of your driveway. Be sure to reseal your driveway regularly to protect it from the elements and give it the best chance at a long lifespan.

Concrete is often the default material for a driveway apron, and many local building codes may require this. If you’re not restricted to concrete, however, you can consider alternative driveway apron ideas, such as asphalt, pavers, or gravel. You can also stamp the concrete for an interesting texture, add color to the concrete for a little extra character, or add a swirled trowel finish to your concrete driveway apron.

The answer to whether or not you need to get a permit before you start your driveway can vary widely based on local ordinances and the scope of your driveway ideas. In most urban and suburban areas, a permit is needed before building a new driveway to ensure that a homeowner is using safe materials and proper drainage practices while designing and constructing a new driveway. In some rural areas, a homeowner may not be required to apply for a permit. When building a new driveway on your own, always check with your local building department to see if you need to request a permit. When hiring a driveway contractor, verify that the right permits are being used before driveway construction begins.
