Carr's Lawn and Landscape is a full service lawn care and landscape service company. We have been providing our customers in the Fort Wayne area with lawn mowing, lawn fertilization, landscape maintenance and installation and irrigation services since 1999.

"Last summer I was looking to get my landscaping updated, and then to possibly setup weekly mowing. I called Carrs - they were very friendly and were able to give me a quote for mowing over the phone and it took just a few days to get the quote for the yard. They came in at a good price (I did price around) and I opted to go with them. I'm glad that I did - the guys always do a great job and are courteous. I'd highly recommend Carr's to anyone looking for landscaping and/or weekly mowing. The cost of the service below was for 4 new shrubs, all new mulching in all the mulch bed, landscaping clean up/trimming of shrubs/bushes, weed removal, etc."

You can try that, but it isn't likely to yield results. It's like watering potted plants without putting the seeds in. Most of the tossed grass seeds sit on top of the soil or existing grass blades and never germinate. The seeds need to make it into the soil, just like growing a potted plant. For instance, you should aerate annually if you have clay-heavy soil or frequent foot traffic in your backyard. However, if your soil is loose or sandy and you don't use your yard often, you can probably aerate every other year.

Some grass types grow better than others on hard dirt. For example, hardy grass types like perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass will grow better on tough soil. Keep in mind that you should still consider your area’s climate when deciding on a grass type.

It depends on the current health of your lawn. Liquid aeration takes longer to work, but the results are longer lasting. Since you can apply the liquid solution several times during the course of the growing season, the results are cumulative. Core aeration, on the other hand, will offer quicker benefits but they will diminish sooner, right along with the soil plugs left behind.
