"I left a terrible review here yesterday after my experience with a Bassett HVAC technician that told me he didn't know the issue & would send a plumber from 3-5 that same day, but I was 'ghosted' by the company instead. However, the plumbers came today & not only found & fixed the issue, but fixed my garbage disposal & found the cause of a leak under my sink - all for no charge due to my experience yesterday. The issues turned out to be very minor all the way around, but I am so appreciative that they were all fixed & the kindness shown to me I don't agree with them telling me someone would be here yesterday, then not contacting me until today, but I should have been more patient before leaving a review yesterday; that is on me. I am so very pleased with my second experience with Bassett (plumbing.) & would definitely recommend Jim & Jon - thank you, gentlemen! Please disregard my first review. "

Even though their jobs sound similar—both professions work on pipes—a plumber and pipefitter actually have very different jobs, and pipefitting isn’t considered plumbing. If your home uses more than one gas appliance, you'll continue to use gas, even outside of the heating season. Your water heater, gas stove and oven, and gas dryer will all use some gas, although typically much less than a furnace. Additionally, those appliances may also have a pilot light that is lit continually, using a small amount even when no one is at home.

For one, natural gas is more affordable than electricity, meaning your wallet might see an overall savings over time. The biggest positive of installing a gas line is that gas-powered appliances will still work during a power outage, so your gas fireplace will keep your home warm and toasty during a blackout. 

Some natural gas furnaces can be converted to propane with a conversion kit, but not all models are compatible. Consult a licensed HVAC pro to determine if conversion is possible and cost-effective for your system. The process involves changes to burner orifices and safety controls, and must be completed to code.

The easiest way to empty a propane tank is to simply use it until no propane remains. If you’re short on time and need a faster solution, transfer the propane to another tank instead. Wear leather gloves to protect your hands, then connect the hoses from both propane tanks and seal them tightly. Turn the knob to open the supply tank valve on the full tank and let it run until the pressure pushes all the propane into the other tank. When all propane is transferred, remove the hose and seal each tank.
