"Tom was timely in his follow-up conversations. He communicated when he said he would about scheduling and gave us enough notice to get prepared. He and his team did a good job of protecting the floors and furniture. They repaired and prepped walls, painted 2 coats, and cleaned up in 1 day. It was a long day, but it was better for them and we appreciated that we didn't have to dedicate another day to the project."

"This is the second job that Jeff Haley has completed for us. The first job was 3 large rooms with cathedral ceilings about 7 years ago. He did an excellent job. Two weeks ago he did 2 small rooms, 2 closets and a larger bedroom with cathedral ceilings. He did a great job beginning with the quote (very reasonable), to the color matching and completing the job in a timely and professional manner. I will definitely use his services again and would highly recommend his company."

"His name says it all, he is a fair man.  He does a wonderful job. He has done crown molding over the years to other rooms in our house. He has hang ceiling fans. He did ceramic tile in our bathroom. He has done everything. We have been using him for 10 years."

"Although it took several weeks do to rain and other contracted work, when they were there they worked non-stop from dawn to dusk. Always left the place clean of debris. Our next door neighbor was very impressed with their work, as we were. I highly recommend them.

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

Small repairs or applications can be DIY projects, but removing older textures, especially with safety risks, is usually left to professionals.

Priming a popcorn ceiling before painting is a good idea, especially if the ceiling is stained, discolored, or has never been painted. Interior paint primer helps seal the surface, preventing stains from bleeding through and allowing the paint to adhere better. Use a stain-blocking, water-based primer for best results.

After removing any type of skylight, you have a few options for the ceiling. You can patch and repair the ceiling to match the surrounding area, ensuring a smooth and seamless finish. Alternatively, you can install a light fixture or a ceiling fan in place of the skylight to maintain functionality and enhance the room's lighting and ventilation. Ultimately, the choice depends on your preferences and the specific requirements of the space. No matter what you choose, you’ll probably want to call in a pro to help.

Popcorn ceilings have fallen out of popularity for several reasons, though opinions on them can vary. The primary drawbacks include an outdated appearance, difficulty with cleaning and maintenance, and potential health risks, as ceilings installed before the 1990s may contain asbestos. As design trends have shifted toward sleeker, more modern finishes, many homeowners now prefer smooth ceilings for their clean look and easier upkeep. However, popcorn ceilings do offer some benefits, such as excellent acoustic properties for noise reduction and the ability to hide imperfections. Some also appreciate their retro charm or find them to be a cost-effective solution. Ultimately, whether they are "bad" depends on personal preference, safety concerns, and aesthetic goals.

The average popcorn ceiling removal costs around $2,000, but prices can range from $950 to $3,100, depending on the size, accessibility, and whether or not there’s asbestos or lead paint.

We don’t recommend DIYing this project to save money, but you can DIY the prep work to speed things up. Consider removing furniture, ceiling lights, and other fixtures before the workers arrive on site. To be extra helpful, cover any remaining belongings with plastic tarps and secure them with tape.
