I have used other stucco contractors in the past and their work failed several years down the road. Jim Spears Plastering is the only stucco contractor I will use going forward. Highly recommend this contractor.
The first day -- install the metal lath, and started putting on the first layer.
They put in a good hard day's work ! ( Note : This day, and every day there after, my place was cleaned up at day's end !! Very Pro !! )
Day 2 - finished up the scratch coat, started prepping the chimney. Started the 2nd coat, followed by the Texture coat on the top peak side of the wall.
Day 3 - Finished 2nd coat, Almost got main wall completed with Finish Texture. --- Scratch coat Chimney for blend.
Day 4 - Finish Texture, Finish Chimney ( actually 1/2 day ! )
Finished for me to Paint !!
I found this company on Angie's list ... Talked with them as well as 3 other reputible companies...
Very Happy with there work !! Awesome, Skilled craftsman ship ! ---
My wall and chimney look Phenominal !!! I can't wait to post some pictures too !
I Highly recommend Jim Spears Plastering
On the first day of work, 3 young men showed up. They did not introduce themselves. Upon their arrival, my wife walked them through the house to show them the spots that needed work. They seemed to know what they were doing, so we got out of their way. They took frequent smoke breaks.
After the first day, we noticed spots that they had missed entirely. When they came back the next day, my wife again walked them through the house to point out areas that had been missed. They said that they would eventually take care of everything, and since we were told by Jim that it would be a 2.5-3 day job, we were not yet concerned.
At around 11:30 am on the second day, after only 1.5 days of work, the crew began packing up their equipment. My wife and I took it upon ourselves to do a walk-through when we realized that they were getting ready to leave. We found many spots that had not been given a final coat, not been properly sanded, or missed entirely. There were around 20 nail holes in the kitchen walls that had not been touched at all. Even the areas that they said were finished had not been "sanded smooth" as we had been promised, in writing. The crew used a wet sponge, not sandpaper, because the mud was still wet. They clearly should have come back another day like Jim had originally said, but they left after only 1.5 days with wet mud on the walls, making proper completion of the job impossible. The end result: highlighted in the attached photographs, were uneven spots, holes, cracking plaster, and an incredibly rough surface.
My wife called Jim within a few days to make him aware of the crew's shoddy work and give him a chance to remedy the situation before we posted a negative review on Angie's List. She specifically asked that the same crew not return to our house because the work they did was so poor. My wife calmly told Jim that he really needed to see the poor quality of the work in order to understand why were unhappy. After attempting to intimidate my wife by calling her "irrational" and "unreasonable", Jim begrudgingly volunteered to come out himself and take a look.
After promising my wife that he would come out himself and look at the work, he instead sent back the SAME WORKERS who had done the poor work. I sent them away because, frankly, I did not want them back in my house. I called Jim and left a voicemail, once again asking him to come. He never returned my call and has not come out (it's been 6 weeks now).
I spent about 5 hours repairing the walls myself. At some point, we just had to paint and move on with our lives.
I often post reviews on Angie's List (this is my 7th one this month). I have never been so negative with a report before, but this company warrants it. They did not complete the job, did pitiful work, and were rude and dismissive when asked to make it right. We gave them ample opportunity to correct the situation before posting this review.
"the pictures that you posted are from the base coat of plaster, then job was only half finished when you call me with a threat of bad work, and as a responce i told you there is allways touch up on plaster work, prime the areas, mark any thing that needs attention, i sent my men back to touch up work and you refused then to do so,the pink on walls in the pictures is a bonding agent so for a fact it was the base coat you were looking at, not the finish!!i do not and will not respond to threats from people that refuse any of my attempts to touch up work even before it is finished, i have an outstanding record with all my customers , and will stay that way.before you reflect bad work know what your talking about first, the job was complasted months ago, and now you post this.i will be more then happy to get a resolve to this, with a second party to stand in so there are no questions to what was done or said,if this is what you would like please e mail me and we will set it up, and remember my men patch plastered hole and other spot in rooms not priced and or billed. thank you Jim Spears"
If I had to ding these guys for anything it would be for the spots of plaster we found in the carpet and on some furniture after they left.
As I said, overall we're pleased and would use them again.
All-in-all, Jim Spear's Plastering did a great job. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again--and I will.
