They did a wonderful job repairing the plaster wall behind my toilet. My home was built in 1929 and had a unique pattern in the original plaster that tried to mimic tile.  They were able to recreate that original look. Very pleasant and professional.

They do not wear booties or vacuum up any of the sanded plaster.  It was a big job for me to clean it up. They got grey filler from the ceiling on my wallpaper. Most of the ceiling was pretty smooth- but far from perfect. Some lumps and holes. I was disappointed

Very reasonable price for the amount of work that they did. The work was done very well. I've learned that plastering is an art form and they were fantastic and very through. They patched holes in our ceiling and two other rooms. What was most impressive was that they did way more than what we asked them to do, they repaired other cracks all on their own!

Their service was excellent, their timing was superb, I contacted them, they came out the next day. They showed up on Saturday, and came back on Sunday and worked, and the work was good. They also make sure you know to call them with any problems you have.

I have used Jim before and as usual, they did a great job. They even recommended a paint to put over the spots that they had fixed prior to painting.

Project went great.  Contractor built a high quality scaffold to reach the chimney and performed the work in 2 days.  The 1st day allowed for the primer and the scratch coat to be installed and the second day allowed for the finish coat.  I asked the contractor to price re-painting the chimney, but his price was too high for me.  However he did offer to allow me to utilize his scaffold to paint it myself.  I appreciated this gesture.
I have used other stucco contractors in the past and their work failed several years down the road.  Jim Spears Plastering is the only stucco contractor I will use going forward.  Highly recommend this contractor.

Jim Spears crew came on site, materials on board two seperate vans, on Time, as scheduled.
The first day -- install the metal lath, and started putting on the first layer.
They put in a good hard day's work !  ( Note : This day, and every day there after, my place was cleaned up at day's end !! Very Pro !! )
Day 2 - finished up the scratch coat, started prepping the chimney. Started the 2nd coat, followed by the Texture coat on the top peak side of the wall.
Day 3 - Finished 2nd coat, Almost got main wall completed with Finish Texture. --- Scratch coat Chimney for blend.
Day 4 - Finish Texture, Finish Chimney ( actually 1/2 day ! )

Jim Spears himself came to give the estimate.  His sales pitch indicated that his company would do an expert job.  He spoke with pride about his company, which he told us he had taken over from his father.  He told us that our job would take 2.5-3 days, and wrote down on the estimate that all areas would be "sanded smooth" upon completion.
On the first day of work, 3 young men showed up.  They did not introduce themselves.  Upon their arrival, my wife walked them through the house to show them the spots that needed work.  They seemed to know what they were doing, so we got out of their way.  They took frequent smoke breaks.
After the first day, we noticed spots that they had missed entirely.  When they came back the next day, my wife again walked them through the house to point out areas that had been missed.  They said that they would eventually take care of everything, and since we were told by Jim that it would be a 2.5-3 day job, we were not yet concerned.
At around 11:30 am on the second day, after only 1.5 days of work, the crew began packing up their equipment.  My wife and I took it upon ourselves to do a walk-through when we realized that they were getting ready to leave.  We found many spots that had not been given a final coat, not been properly sanded, or missed entirely.  There were around 20 nail holes in the kitchen walls that had not been touched at all.  Even the areas that they said were finished had not been "sanded smooth" as we had been promised, in writing.  The crew used a wet sponge, not sandpaper, because the mud was still wet.  They clearly should have come back another day like Jim had originally said, but they left after only 1.5 days with wet mud on the walls, making proper completion of the job impossible.  The end result: highlighted in the attached photographs, were uneven spots, holes, cracking plaster, and an incredibly rough surface.
My wife called Jim within a few days to make him aware of the crew's shoddy work and give him a chance to remedy the situation before we posted a negative review on Angie's List.  She specifically asked that the same crew not return to our house because the work they did was so poor.  My wife calmly told Jim that he really needed to see the poor quality of the work in order to understand why were unhappy.  After attempting to intimidate my wife by calling her "irrational" and "unreasonable", Jim begrudgingly volunteered to come out himself and take a look.
After promising my wife that he would come out himself and look at the work, he instead sent back the SAME WORKERS who had done the poor work.  I sent them away because, frankly, I did not want them back in my house.  I called Jim and left a voicemail, once again asking him to come.  He never returned my call and has not come out (it's been 6 weeks now).
I spent about 5 hours repairing the walls myself.  At some point, we just had to paint and move on with our lives.
I often post reviews on Angie's List (this is my 7th one this month).  I have never been so negative with a report before, but this company warrants it.  They did not complete the job, did pitiful work, and were rude and dismissive when asked to make it right.  We gave them ample opportunity to correct the situation before posting this review.
Response from Jim Spears Plastering
"the pictures that you posted are from the base coat of plaster, then job was only half finished when you call me with a threat of bad work, and as a responce i told you there is allways touch up on plaster work, prime the areas, mark any thing that needs attention, i sent my men back to touch up work and you refused then to do so,the pink on walls in the pictures is a bonding agent so for a fact it was the base coat you were looking at, not the finish!!i do not and will not respond to threats from people that refuse any of my attempts to touch up work even before it is finished, i have an outstanding record with all my customers , and will stay that way.before you reflect bad work know what your talking about first, the job was complasted months ago, and now you post this.i will be more then happy to get a resolve to this, with a second party to stand in so there are no questions to what was done or said,if this is what you would like please e mail me and we will set it up, and remember my men patch plastered hole and other spot in rooms not priced and or billed. thank you Jim Spears"

Jim Spears and his crew demonstrated why they have previously scored so highly on Angie's list. Over the five visits, the crew was always timely and have transformed what was a tired looking living room and dining room into like new wall surfaces. In the 12x24 living room, they removed the old canvas like wall covering, skimmed all the walls and replaced the plaster in a textured ceiling and two wall areas that had completely broken away. The dining room was the real test where ultra thick textured plaster was on all walls. The walls were floated to a smooth finish and sanded. The finished product looks great and Jim and his team were committed to addressing any detailing that needed performed following priming of the walls. If you have an older home, this repair process sure beats replacing all the plaster and lathe but be warned, it's a dusty process so make sure you seal off all areas thoroughly and be prepared to dust for days. Thanks Angie's List and thanks Jim Spears Plastering!

rIt went great!  They had to correct a shoddy job begun by another company which had made the original problem even worse.  The workers were polite, neat and helpful.  They gave us information on how to prime and paint the wall after it dried thoroughly.  Their final work was flawless.

The crew arrived as scheduled and were in and out within four hours.  My only complaint was that did not do the best job covering furniture in the area and left more debris behind in on the floors and in the ventilation ducts than I would have liked.  A bit more attention to clean up would have been appreciated.  Quality of work was good.

Overall we're pleased with the results.  To someone who has never seen the ceiling before I don't think they could tell we'd had a water leak and had to cut out the damaged drywall, patch it, re-texture the patch, and paint.

If I had to ding these guys for anything it would be for the spots of plaster we found in the carpet and on some furniture after they left.

As I said, overall we're pleased and would use them again.

The house is very old and it had some water damage from a roof leak. They came in and did the job in about 4 hours. They came within 20 minutes of their designated time of arrival. They instructed me to wait about 4 weeks before painting. Everything looks very good, and they blended it very well. The price was very reasonable for what they had to do.  I was a very positive experience.

Jim's staff were quite punctual arriving early to begin the job.  They were also quite professional, finding and repairing cracks in the plaster that even I and my wife had missed.  Cleaned up afterwards, leaving the work area as clean as when they began.  The foreman even provided advice about primer/sealers for the patch work and how long I should wait before painting the repaired surfaces.

All-in-all, Jim Spear's Plastering did a great job.  I wouldn't hesitate to use them again--and I will.

Work did not take as long as I expected.  Crew covered all areas, but there still were a few splatter marks left after work was finished.  Overall was pleased with the job.
