"Perez Landscaping did a wonderful job! They came to the house the day after I contacted them and provided me with an estimate that was very fair. Within one week, they completed the job and their work exceeded my expectations. The communication was great and they had some good ideas on how to handle the design. I will be using them in the future and I recommend them very highly!"

"Mike and his crew redid both of our bathrooms with heated floors and all the works.  The project was a little bit challenging in that we did one wall with pebbles which was very labor intensive.  Still, they did a great job.  My wife now says we have a better bathroom than the spas / hotels.

Architects questions, answered by experts

The primary reason homes have crawl spaces is so the foundation can reach down below the frost line to avoid dangerous soil movement and structural damage when the ground freezes. They’re more popular in colder climates where the ground freezes down to a few feet, and slabs are most popular in warmer areas where there is no frost line. Crawl spaces also provide a space for utility lines to run where they’re at less of a risk of freezing.

Depending on what the blueprints are for, a qualified draftsperson, contractor, or architect can draw them up. In some cases, including specialty permitting for a build, you may be required to use a licensed architect.

In many cases, a blueprint drawn up by a certified professional is required before a city or municipality approves a permit.

As with most large-scale home renovation projects, you’ll need an architect to map out the exact layout and specs of your above-garage room, which is required in many municipalities. Some general contractors will serve as your architect, or they may bring on a residential architect to assist with the plans.

While you will always work with a team of professionals at some point during your home build, homeowners with experience can take on some part of the process. Manage the initial brainstorm, brief writeup, and floor layout phase with minimal assistance before contacting a general contractor. And while you can purchase stock blueprints for some home designs, it's always best to speak with professionals when choosing one ideal for your property.

With proper training and experience, reading blueprints is fairly straightforward and not very difficult. If you don’t have the necessary knowledge to interpret the symbols, abbreviations, and other notations used, blueprints may not make sense. Learning to read blueprints can help you understand the construction process and keep you more involved and informed when you’re building a house.
