"We had a leaning retaining wall by our walkout basement. We were very concerned that it might fall over and was no longer stable. I called Indiana Foundation Service and got a representative out the next week. He went over the issue and the solution thoroughly with me. We signed the contract and a month later we had some awesome workers come out to our house. Charles, Brandon, and Kyle worked 2 days to dig, brace, and make sure our wall was level/plum. I cannot recommend this company and this crew enough! We were completely satisfied with the outcome and the whole process. If you have any foundation or structural issues, do yourself a favor and call Indiana Foundation Service."

Customers say: True professional

"Jacob helped us to install a kitchen vent hood in October 2017. The job involves drilling through an eight-inch round hole through a brick wall, and because of the location of the stove underneath the hood, the hole needs to go through a stud, which is weight-bearing in an exterior wall. Prior to hiring Jacob, I have contacted two other contractors. One ultimately declined the job after an initial walkthrough, citing reasons that the hood is commercial-grade and they simply could not do it (despite promising an easy job during the initial walkthrough and measurement). The other from a named company proposed a solution that did not involve reinforcing the stud (and joked about the house is not going to falling down because of lack of support of one stud). Jacobs solution included the reinforcement of the stud, and the quote was quite reasonable, and that's why we decided to enlist his help. He has not only built an entire frame around the shortened-stud (with headers, and multiple sister studs), but also fastened the 80-lbs vent hood to the top as well as to the back of the wall. Its so sturdy that that he put his entire weight on it, and the hood wont budge. He also helped with drywall and electric outlet installation. We are extremely happy with the quality of work, and his overall attitude in the project. Well definitely consider his service for future handyman projects."

House Leveling questions, answered by experts

The method involves lifting settled concrete using pressurized cement slurry via drilled holes. This solves uneven surfaces and prevents further settling.

It’s best not to perform mudjacking in the winter unless the ground temperature remains above freezing. Freezing temperatures can cause the slurry to harden too quickly, compromising its strength and longevity. Concrete is also more susceptible to cracking and splitting in cold temperatures, so there’s a higher risk of damaging the slab during the drilling and lifting process in winter.

Yes, expanding foam (also known as polyurethane foam) can lift concrete. This approach, called polyjacking, involves injecting the foam rather than concrete slurry to fill voids and raise the concrete slab back into place. It’s often faster and requires smaller drill holes than traditional mudjacking, though it may come at a higher cost. Some contractors also prefer polyjacking over mudjacking for more damaged and delicate slabs.

Mudjacking is suitable for sidewalks, driveways, patios, and nearly all exterior flat structures. However, it may not suit severely damaged or heavily cracked areas.

Polyjacking and mudjacking can both be effective solutions for sinking concrete, but they have key differences. Polyjacking, which uses expanding polyurethane foam, is often considered a better option because the foam is significantly lighter than the cementitious material used for mudjacking. This reduced weight puts less pressure on the underlying soil and lowers the risk of future sinking. Polyjacking is suitable for any sinking concrete slab, while mudjacking is typically only recommended for non-structural concrete, such as sidewalks, patios, pool decks, and driveways. The primary drawback of polyjacking is its cost, which can be up to four times higher than mudjacking—as much as $25 per square foot compared to a maximum of about $6 per square foot for mudjacking.
