"Mr. Jim Gorman who is the owner of the business called me back within a half hour of my email posting. He visited my home 3 days later, inspected things, and told me what the approximate cost would be. He and his helper then installed an entire lightning protection system on both my house and a back garage/storage area. He did things exactly as I wanted in every way. Also threw in a free weathervane which increased the beauty of my home. I would have no objection to recommending this gentleman and his company to anyone who is in need of a competently installed lightning protection system for their home/property. MID-AMERICA LIGHTNING RODS is one fine company run by a man who cares about doing good work according to the latest safety codes etc. Having lost my previous retirement home to lightning, it was very important to me to get this job done and quickly because the thunderstorm season is upon us and with the climate change, those storms are very wicked, especially here out in the country where i live!"

"WB Lightning Rods did an excellent job installing lightening rods on our home. The owner stayed onsite the entire time to supervise the work. He took extra care to plan the rod and cable placement to ensure the proper protection and retain the aesthetics of our home. His crew were knowledgeable, polite, neat and efficient. We could not be more pleased with the results."

"It was pretty rocky. At first. Several appoints made by Tri-State no one ever showed up.Crew showed up to install the Generator before the site survey and did not have necessary equipment or cooperation of Electric or gas company nor call before you dig had been notified. I called Tri-State to warn them the call before dig had never been preformed. They said they'd take care of it, did not happen until right before installation crew came back the second time. The first time they were here they could not have installed the generator even had they had all the parts because none of the utilities had been marked. Finally after about three months the Generac was installed and working. I had several questions that I could never get answered by calling Tri-State. One of the installation team had to come back a couple of weeks later to replace a damaged part and he answered all my questions. The guys who installed the Generac were great, the problem is your guys operation center and call center as far as I can see do not communicate very well. Anyway the generator has worked fine in several power outages this spring. I am happy right now but I live in dread something goes wrong and I have to call Tri-State for help."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

When planning electrical projects in Decatur, consider the area’s frequent storms and high humidity, which make GFCI outlets and whole-house surge protection especially important. If your home is in a historic district, check for special guidelines that may affect wiring updates. Older homes often have outdated wiring or limited panel capacity, so a thorough inspection before starting any project is a smart move.

Helpful?

Your Decatur home is well-suited for electrical projects if it has a modern service panel, dry basement, and standard drywall construction. Warning signs like frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, or two-prong outlets suggest underlying issues. Homes built before 1970 or those with visible DIY electrical work should be professionally evaluated to ensure safety and compliance before starting any upgrades.

Helpful?

In Decatur, homes with features like plaster walls, knob-and-tube wiring, or balloon framing can make electrical projects more challenging. High water tables may cause basement moisture, complicating new wiring. Tight crawl spaces, low ceilings, or outdated service panels also add complexity. If your home has any of these characteristics, consult an experienced electrician for creative, code-compliant solutions.

Helpful?

For minor electrical tasks in Decatur, such as swapping out a light fixture or replacing an outlet, always turn off the breaker and verify the power is off with a tester. Avoid working in damp conditions, as moisture can increase electrical hazards. If you notice persistent breaker trips, buzzing sounds, or issues near the main panel, it’s safest to contact a local professional.

Helpful?

Combining electrical projects with other home upgrades in Decatur is often efficient. For example, if you’re remodeling a kitchen or finishing a basement, updating wiring, adding outlets, or improving lighting at the same time can streamline inspections and minimize disruptions. Coordinating electrical work with insulation or HVAC upgrades also helps address moisture and energy efficiency concerns unique to the local climate.
