"After the initial consultation we decided to expand the job significantly to have the decks washed and painted, the exterior of the house pressure washed and painted, decaying wood trim removed and replaced, critical areas re-caulked, wall paper removed from 2 bathrooms and the dining room, those rooms plus three more rooms repainted, several water damaged ceilings repaired and repainted, one wall in the basement removed due to traces of mold and replaced and repainted, four short wooden columns outside repaired, water proofed and repainted, and a number of other small items that needed painting were also addressed. This was a huge job that was completed to our satisfaction over several weeks. That the job completion was this long was due in part to some rainy weather, to job and vacation conflicts, and to availability of necessary materials. When it was apparent that this job had grown so much that the original job completion date might be delayed, Danny marshaled extra workers and with that beehive of activity he was able to complete the job on time and to our satisfaction."

"We have been homeowners for 40 years and this was probably the best service we have received as homeowners. Their work involved prep and painting on a three story house. They also worked on three different deck areas. They completed all of the items in the contract and also replaced some rotted wood at the top of our house which was discovered by the workers on the roof. We had some questions during the six day process and they were addressed immediately by the owner of the business. Their work on our house was outstanding. Based on our experience, we would highly recommend C & Z Painting."

"Zamora Painters have the knowledge , experience and expertise that made us so happy we hired them. They power washed, prepped and painted and cleaned up so very well. I have referred them to several neighbors. It has been one year since they completed our home and it still looks like it was just painted. They are extremely professional and courteous. We highly recommend them."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

If you don’t treat a cedar fence, it will turn from reddish brown to gray over time. You can keep the cedar from graying and retain its attractive, deep red color by sealing your cedar fence with a stain that keeps the wood’s oils in and serves as a barrier against the sun’s UV rays.

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

A five-gallon bucket of deck stain will cover roughly 875 square feet in a single coat. Actual coverage will vary based on the type of wood you’re staining and the number of coats. If you plan on doing multiple coats, multiply the square footage by the number of coats to calculate how many buckets of stain you’ll need.

The best paint for an older deck depends on the material and whether or not your deck already has a coat of paint. Generally, if your deck already has paint on it, you should choose the same type of paint when repainting the deck. For example, if an old deck has oil-based paint on it, stick with oil; if your deck has water-based paint, choose water-based paint.

Oxygen bleach uses hydrogen peroxide as a base and won’t harm wood when using it as a cleaner. On the other hand, chlorine bleach breaks down wood at the cellular level and causes irreversible harm. Although you may not see immediate damage to wood after exposing it to chlorine bleach, its strength and integrity are now compromised.
