Integrated solar energy solutions: photovoltaic, solar-thermal, battery storage and heat pumps. We are not tied to any specific PV manufacturer and will source the best solution for your location and situation. Solar energy is no longer idealists' domain - it makes solid financial sense. Whether your goal is to minimize the time until your solar installation is paid off, or you want to ride out the Zombie apocalypse in comfortable energy self-sufficiency, we have the perfect solution for your location and building use. Contrary to popular perception, year-round self-sufficiency can be reasonably achieved in the Midwest. We have close relationships to vendors of weekly and seasonal energy storage systems which will keep lights and heat on year-round.

"I would recommend taking your business elsewhere. We signed a contract with them in Nov '21 for work to be completed in May '22 for a large multi-house project. In Nov '22 the work was finally "completed." Throughout that time there was minimal to no communication. I would get text messages about a work crew coming to work on the install and no one would ever show up. I would get last minute text messages asking for access to inside areas they had previously claimed they didn't need access. I have had them call and inform me that a "string of panels" was not functioning, only to have the tech arrive and say everything looks fine and it's all working. I still have never been given access to the system monitoring software, despite claims that I have, so I have no way of verifying if anything is working outside of random screenshots they send of their computer monitors. On of the least professional companies I've encountered. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere."

"I met an electrician at the house I was buying to get a quote to get an electrical box moved. When they came back to the house to do work for the seller they moved the box without giving me a quote or discussing it with me. In addition they left a real mess such as holes in the wall...etc. they then charged me $610. Bottom line they did work I never agreed to ha e them do."

There are many solar providers out there but not all of them offer the same level of service. At Icon Solar, we exceed industry standards by focusing on three core fundamentals: Full-Circle Customer Service, State-of-the-art equipment, and the peace of mind that our warranties provide. When it comes to choosing a solar company, it’s important to do your research and ensure you are working with a reputable and reliable company. We are proud to be rated A+ by the BBB with zero complaints and have a 4.8 out of 5.0 rating on Google Business. We are also a trusted solar installer hand-selected by the “Find It Duke” referral program. We have been carefully vetted and selected to participate in solar programs conducted by various cities in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. We are your go-to choice for all solar energy needs.

"Despite having several large trees in and near our yard, we decided to investigate the possibility of installing solar panels. We were upfront with the companies we contacted that our main concern was viability for our particular site, but also made it clear we would like to do the installation if at all practical. Icon was the most responsive and also the least expensive of the quotes we got. On her initial visit, Rachel, our salesperson, expressed concerns about the trees but said we would get a good estimate of potential electric energy production based on a follow-up site visit. We proceeded to that stage, and based on the estimates decided to install panels on both south-facing and east-facing sections of our roof. Jaye at Icon was particularly good to work with, quickly generating new plans as our thinking progressed. The installation went well, with one notable exception. The wiring through our attic was performed sloppily, with excess cable winding across the insulation and several flexible ducts inadvertently knocked loose from the collector box supplying HVAC to the upstairs. I felt that Icon did not take full responsibility, but the electrician absolutely did, and made things right. In the end, I give him a lot of credit - and also Icon for selecting such a responsible individual to subcontract their electrical work to. We have had the panels for over a year now. We have had no issues with any of the equipment, no roof leaks, and much lower electric bills. Still, production was below Icon's estimate by more than 30%. I would be the first to admit that our situation is more difficult than average to estimate, but this amount of error is surprising and disappointing. It is small consolation that Icon was not the only company to be so over-optimistic. Overall, I think Icon did about as good a job as possible for our situation. I just wish we had a more realistic idea going in what we were likely to get out of the system. [Cost does not include tax credit.]"

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

Yes, you should tell your home insurance company about your solar panels. Even if you believe they’re covered by your existing policy, installing a solar panel system is a significant change to your home. This can affect coverage and premiums. By discussing your new solar panel installation with your insurance provider, you can be sure you have enough coverage and that the policy completely covers the panels against damage.

Solar shingles and solar panels are not the same. While solar shingles use the same technology as traditional solar panels, they integrate with your existing roof. That means they are used to build your roof instead of simply resting on top of it. When comparing solar shingles and solar panels, it's helpful to know that solar shingles are more aesthetically pleasing than solar roof panels. They also do better in harsh weather due to limited uplift from strong winds.

The actual time it takes to construct the solar farm is relatively short, taking between 2 and 4 months on average. That timeline is dependent on site conditions, crew size, and the overall size of the solar farm.

However, the time it takes to get the ball rolling is significantly longer, ranging from 3 to 5 years. With a project of this scale, you’ll need to obtain all of the proper permits and approvals to start breaking ground, and depending on your location, that could be an extended process.

Most solar panels last 25 to 30 years and have a warranty to match. Over time, you’ll see a diminishing electrical output. This is normal wear, but certain things can hasten solar degradation. These include heavy rainfall, high temperatures, constant humidity that corrodes the frame, and cracks or chips in the glass.

Solar batteries can be a great investment to help maximize your solar savings and make your system and home more valuable, but they’re most beneficial to customers who don’t have access to net metering. If your state or energy provider doesn’t provide net metering, batteries can be a great way to offset consumption even when your panels aren’t producing power. They also come with the added benefit of providing electricity through blackouts, so they’re valuable in areas prone to severe weather that could cause frequent blackouts. Your installer can help you decide if batteries are worthwhile.
