"Hi there, we’re looking for painting services for a 1–2 bedroom furnished home that’s currently unoccupied. We’re still in the planning and budgeting stage, so I’m not exactly sure when the work can begin. For more details, please reach out to my husband at [email protected] — he’ll share the house photos and additional information with you. Email is the best way to reach us since we’re new around here. Thanks so much! 😊"

"John was efficient, punctual, detail oriented and courteous. The wallpaper was a very complicated pattern and we could not have asked for better results. We will definitely keep his contact information for future work to be performed."

"He was great. He was really flexible on scheduling and worked with us on timing. We had them remove our wallpaper in a two rooms. We have since extended our relationship and he is currently removing the rest of our wallpaper and doing some other prep work (mudding, sanding, and priming) prior to us having the whole interior of our home painted. We will likely have him quote on the painting as well."

"Fred came out the same day I called to give us an estimate, and even worked with us to stay within our budget, which we really appreciated. He was able to come complete the work only a few days after, and called the day before to let us know when he would arrive. He was very prompt and professional, and did a great job. He removed the vents, light switches, and banister and put them all back up before he left. He even fixed a blemish in the drywall that we could not get to due to the height. He also ran to home depot for more paint to finish the job. He did great work and we are extremely pleased! I definitely recommend Fred, and we will be using him again if we ever need painting done in the future. Thanks! :)"

"This is another great job by Short's Painting. I called in late December to see about getting a quote for painting two rooms. Mike came to the house the first week of January and took a look at the dining room and our Master Bathroom. The dining room was going to need wallpaper removed, so Mike offered to cap the labor for that part of the job at 6 hours (it took all of 5). He provided a quote when expected the next week. We then simply had to pick colors and schedule a day to paint. Mike was ready to schedule sooner than we expected. They did the wallpaper, ceilings and trim in mid January, and came back two weeks later to paint the walls. Mike was very understanding and patient with our delaying the job to get the color just right. The final product looks great, and I would definitely recommend you hire them!"

"It went great.  The walls in one bathroom were in rough shape owing to wallpaper removal efforts on my part.  I thought Pro Decor would just paint the room but they exceeded expectations with the skim coat.  The ceiling in the kitchen had a bad seam where a wall had been removed and badly patched by a contractor.  Pro Decor dug out those bad results and fixed it correctly.  It all looks great and the price was equally great."

Small jobs welcome

"They arrived for my "emergency" call - my painters were arriving the next day - and finished my wallpaper removal job. They did a phenomenal job and cleaned up after themselves very well. They also did NOT take advantage of me even though they were in a prime position to do so due to my very short timeframe. I would absolutely use them again!"

"Marcos and his crew did an outstanding job for me.  I'm picky, and was thrilled with the work performed.  I am a repeat customer. (he stained my deck last year)  This time, he removed wallpaper and painted my dining room. This was not an easy task, but the end result is amazing. He also painted my entire interior, fixed all the holes in the walls, and even painted the crown molding. He did a great job with the 2 story foyer and family room.  My interior looks like a brand new home. I highly recommend this provider! Thanks!

Wallpaper Removal questions, answered by experts

While it is possible to paint over wallpaper, it is generally better to remove it first to guarantee a smooth, professional finish. Painting over wallpaper can save time, but it may lead to issues if not done correctly.

You can paint over existing wallpaper if it is in excellent condition: smooth, non-textured, clean, and firmly adhered to the wall. Ensure there are no bumps, tears, or peeling areas, and that all corners and seams are securely glued down. You might also consider painting over wallpaper if removing it would damage the underlying wall. Additionally, some wallpapers are specifically designed to be paintable, which can add texture to a room.

However, there are risks. If the wallpaper is textured, damaged, or peeling, these imperfections will show through the new paint. The moisture from the paint can also loosen the wallpaper's adhesive, causing it to bubble and potentially damage the wall. To mitigate these issues, clean the surface thoroughly and use an oil-based primer to help the paint adhere and prevent the old adhesive from bleeding through.

The average cost to remove wood paneling is $2,800, but total costs may be higher or lower depending on the size of the room, your location, and the amount of prep work required. Once the paneling is gone, you may have additional costs depending on the condition of the wall beneath.

Wallpaper lasts an average of around 15 years, but there is some variance. The type of wallpaper matters, as vinyl wallpaper tends to last the longest—sometimes 20 years or more—while a peel-and-stick wallpaper, which is the easiest to install for DIYers, will usually only last for around five years. Exposure to high humidity, smoke, and UV rays from sunlight can also limit the lifespan of your wallpaper, as can heavy traffic in the installation area.

To remove pre-pasted wallpaper, you’ll need to wet the wallpaper or steam it to loosen the paste on the back of the wallpaper. Spray the paper with water, then let it soak for 10 to 20 minutes. From there, you should be able to peel off the wallpaper. Then, you may need to follow up with a cleaning solution and a scraper to remove any remaining wallpaper paste on the walls.

You’ll need to wash the walls to remove wallpaper adhesive residue after removal as part of the prep process for painting or rehanging wallpaper. Old adhesive can cause texture issues and prevent paint or wallpaper from adhering properly to the wall’s surface.
