"Paulo and Sons were quick with a quote and were able to complete the job quickly and for a great price. Since we were having stumps ground they asked that we get our utilities marked by JULIE; other pros didn't even suggest this; Paulo and Sons are thinking about safety first! Once our yard was marked, I called and they came to complete the job in less than 24 hours. They removed 4 arborvitae (10-18 feet tall) and trimmed a crab apple tree. Great work and would not hesitate to call again!"

"Horjes and Joe did a fantastic job. They were skilled and careful with an eye for appropriate shapes and sizes for each tree trimmed. Not to be confused with an Alberquer New Mexico firm named with almost the same name on Angi. My husband and I were pleased with their curtesy, ability to clean up everything and to work diligently and safely. We want them to come back again in th late fall to work on trimming our very large oak tree."

"I live in the same neighborhood as Mike and have used him several times over the years for tree trimming and snow removal. He just recently removed some branches that had come down from a recent ice storm. He is always prompt, and professionally gives a fair price, keeps you informed about any changes, and shows up when promised. I highly recommend him."

"Hugh did a great job grinding the buried roots of my already cut down Locust tree. He had to work in a small space and get many roots. He is a listener, hard worker, and thorough."

"Great Job! They removed a huge tree in our backyard. They arrived on time within a week of me hiring them. They came on a Saturday so I could be home when they cut down the tree. They were the only quote I got that did not require the electricity to my house be turned off for the day, as the electric wire went under the tree. It ended up not being a problem for them! They cleaned up the yard and my roof afterwards. The price they quoted was great! Very satisfied with their job! Would highly recommend them!"

"We recently hired Castro’s Tree Service out of Elgin, IL, and had a great experience from start to finish. They removed two trees, ground down one stump, and trimmed a third tree on our property. The crew was professional, hardworking, and respectful throughout the entire job. They showed up on time, worked efficiently, and cleaned everything up very well when they were done. One thing we especially appreciated was that they even left us some of the cut wood so we could start building a wood storage pile for future burning. The quality of work was excellent, and the pricing was fair for the amount of work completed. I would definitely recommend Castro’s Tree Service to anyone looking for reliable and professional tree work in the area."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

It depends on the type of tree. Typically, late spring on the cusp of winter is ideal for trees about to emerge from dormancy and produce new buds. That said, late fall is ideal for certain deciduous trees prone to bleeding sap. Avoid trimming trees in early spring, when they’re prone to disease.

Though summer is not ideal, you can do some light pruning during this time of year. Just make sure it’s not excessive. Vigorous pruning will stress the tree and impact next year’s growth. Generally, August to September are the best summer-pruning months, particularly for fruit trees.

You may wonder whether tree removal is tax deductible: Tree removal is not tax-deductible for homeowners unless it's related to a federally declared disaster. In that case, the cost may qualify as a casualty loss. However, if you own a commercial property, like a rental home, tree removal could be deductible if it's necessary for safety, maintenance, or part of a larger capital improvement project, and you must hire a professional tree removal service and keep documentation. Always consult a tax professional beforehand to see if you qualify.

Many consider the Fraser fir to be the most popular type of Christmas tree, but which type of tree sells out near you can depend on region and decorating trends that year. For example, the Leyland cypress is especially popular in the Southeast, according to the National Christmas Tree Association.

A few signs a tree may be dead is if the leaves are dead and there are no signs of new blooms. You can also perform a scratch test on some of the branches to check the condition of the cambium layer beneath the bark.

If it is green, it is still alive, but if several are dry, brittle, and brown, the tree may be dying or dead. Always consult an arborist before assuming your tree is dead because you may be able to save it.
