"We want to start by saying that Travis did a good job completing the project, and we are happy with the finished product. He even lowered the price when he realized the workload was smaller than originally expected, which we appreciated. Our biggest concern was communication. We were almost always the ones reaching out for updates and to find out when they would be coming. At times, it felt like our project was not a priority. The timeline was also an issue. The project ultimately took about two weeks, whereas we were originally told it would take approximately three days total. Additionally, part of the project involved painting the mantle. When it was first completed, the workmanship was very poor. We contacted Travis, and to his credit, he did make it right by purchasing and painting a new mantle. However, this did add additional time to the project. Lastly, while Travis appears to do good work, we did not see him on-site very often. The two workers he had did not seem experienced"

"Josh is extremely knowledgeable and very well versed in all areas. He was very fair with his pricing, handed all transactions and any issues with professionalism. Not your stereotypical contractor, Josh is a family man that was respectful. The project took a little longer than anticipated, but in the end had the level of quality and skill we had expected!"

"Roberto and his wife were very friendly. Overall the project was completed to my satisfaction, however there were some minor issues of concern. My garage was left in a less than desirable state. The shelves sustained water damage from the saw and stain was splattered on the walls. The toilet was not reinstalled correctly which led to a leak. The ceiling in my furnace room sustained some damage due to this and Roberto never came back to address it as he'd promised."

"The crew arrived earlier that agreed and set to work quickly. The crew were friendly, knowledgeable, respectful and efficient. They worked very hard and were very respectful of our home. The job required they work at our house over multiple days and each day the guys cleaned up the work area very thoroughly. I really appreciated that the guys did not rush any aspect of their job but really focused on the quality of their workmanship. All phone contact with the management of Cooper's Construction was answered very quickly and they were very responsive to our needs. I absolutely will use this company again and I will recommend them to everyone I know.

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

There are a variety of second-story deck privacy ideas depending on your budget and aesthetic. For starters, you might consider fencing or tall privacy railing that masks a good portion of the open deck. A pergola or an awning can provide additional cover and shade. Outdoor curtains are an easy way to add or remove privacy at your convenience, plus they’re a wallet-friendly way to decorate your deck.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

Traditionally, bungalows are single-story homes, although having a half or partial story on top of the first floor is common. While adding a second story to a bungalow is certainly possible, the home would no longer be considered a bungalow by the strictest definition.

The cost to install a bow window can range from $1,500 to $15,000, with a national average of $3,900. The total price includes materials, which can cost between $1,200 and over $14,000, and labor, which typically adds $300 to $1,900. Several factors influence the final cost, including the window's size and frame material. For example, vinyl frames are the most budget-friendly option, while wood frames are more expensive. Custom features or energy-efficient upgrades will also increase the price. For comparison, a bay window installation typically costs between $1,000 and $7,000.
