I purchased 3 hours of time for handyman service. I had a list of things that I wanted done during this time with my contact at Sound Construction. Via email, he shared with me what could be reasonably be done during the 3 hour timeframe.  We agreed that 2 exhaust fans would be replaced in two of our bathrooms.  He, also, asked me if we wanted to buy the exhaust fans or if we wanted him to buy them. Since we have no expertise in buying exhaust fans, I told him to buy them.  He indicated that the cost would be approximately $250 which was agreeable to us. I told him that I would pay him for the exhaust fans when the worker arrived to do the work. We got a follow-up email saying that the exhaust fans were more expensive that the original quote. He said that the prices had  gone up since he last purchased exhaust fans. The new  total amount would be $300 which we agreed to pay.

A  Sound Construction worker arrived on time to do the work.  He was very organized and was careful to cover my bathroom countertops before laying out his tools. He was pleasant and I was impressed with his expertise. He said that one of the exhaust fans took more time to install than he expected. While I had purchased 3 hours of time for this installation, he actually needed an additional 10 to 15 minutes to replace the two exhaust fans.  So to complete the job, he needed between 3 hours 10 mins. to 3 hours 15 mins.  He then told me that I needed to pay him for an extra hour of his time because of the additional minutes used. I asked him if I could pay him for an extra 15 minutes or 30 minutes. He indicated that I needed to pay for a full hour of his time. He said that since I had to pay for another hour of his time; I could give him additional work to do. I then asked him to do some small tasks to fill in the extra 45 minutes that I was forced to pay. All of the work that he did was very well done. My concern was about how the pricing was handled. I would have been fine with paying for an additional 15 mins. or even 30 mins. I felt ripped off being asked to pay for an extra hour.

When it came time to pay him, I asked him for the sales receipt for the exhaust fans. He said that he did not have the sales receipt but that I owed him the $300. Who charges customers for materials and doesn't have a receipt to document the costs!!! I was shocked and angry. Plus, he said that I owed him additional dollars for materials that he needed to do the work that was not included in the amount quoted in the Angie's list deal. Therefore, I had to pay him $414.00. This was $114.00 more than I had expected to pay. I resented paying for the extra full hour of time, the additional money for his materials and the fact that he had no sales receipt for the exhaust fans. I will not use them again for any services.

"I hit the jackpot finding Fil & Thor Build. I live between Chicago and another state and wanted to complete my project while I was away, to avoid having to live through the construction. I had quotes from a couple of other contractors, all provided half baked quotes and were slow to respond to my emails. I contacted Thor Build online and got a return call from Fil soon after my initial inquiry. We made an appointment and Fil showed up as scheduled and was quick to send me an estimate as promised. Throughout the entire project Fil kept me updated on the progress. His communication is by far the best that I've experienced with any contractor. The project went smoothly and all of my questions were answered promptly. I also had a couple of additional small requests, which Fil gladly accommodated. I can't praise Thor Build enough for their professionalism and craftsmanship. Everything turned out exactly how I envisioned, and my place was clean when I returned home. "I normally don’t write reviews however, this is one of those rare occasions when I had to share my experience. After contacting several companies to enlarge my kitchen and to add an addition to my home. I became frustrated by the lack support since I’ve never hired a contractor before. As well as receiving ridiculous quotes for the work. A neighbor referred me to structure Re-Right who previously remodeled their home. From the moment I contacted Kareem I felt he understood exactly what I wanted. His team expanded my vision surpassing my expectations. Then completing the work ahead of schedule. Furthermore the cost was 20 to 30% lower than previous estimates. Structure Re-Right will be the only company I'll ever use for all my home improvement needs."

"Had taken over management of owner occupied 3 flat apartment building. Recently leased apartment to new tenant. Found that work done on master bathroom by someone hired by owner less than two years ago was faulty. A leak in bath room in apartment above had been discovered and fixed, but who ever owner hired to do repair on water damage to this bathroom apparently never replaced wet wall board, just painted and tiled over!
Also about time I was getting quotes for repairing this bathroom, I replaced the old drop-in stove top in the apartment with a new one. However the old unit had knobs in front, while new one had controls on top. This left a open cutout in front of cabinet.
Tom had been out of town when I first started getting quotes, and I had almost decided on an other provider. However, he offered to meet me at the building at my convenience (I am only there once or twice a week) to see what was needed and give me a quote on the spot.
He showed up on time. When I showed him the main 'job' - the master bath- I gave him minimum information. His answers as to what probably happened and what would be needed, depending on extent of hidden damage was spot on. I also liked his suggestions as to how he would fix the problems.  As we went through the apartment I ask the tenant to show us anything else she felt needed to be 'fixed/adjusted'.  Tom gave good answers to the few items she pointed out., and, while honest, did not put me into any bind or make apartment owner seem bad.
After we left the tenant, Tom explained to me what he would do, and how long he expected to take. I also went into more detail about 'prior' fix with him at that time, though it appeared he easily was able to see what had happened. Tom gave me expected time to do all the fixes, and price. I was impressed that he just about promised all could be done in one day without disrupting tenant to any major degree.  Also, he would be able start within a reasonable time frame, which was important to me.
Tom came out and did the work with in  the next week. While I was not able to be there at the time, I reviewed the work he did several days later. He did a very good job. Also, important to me, the tenant was also pleased and complemented his professionalism. He did quality work, timely, and at a very reasonable price.
I am going to use Tom for future jobs as needed at the building. Not only I will recommend him to others, but here are some projects in the near future I am planning at my own home about which I will be contacting him.
