"They replaced it with a metal screen so that it wouldn't cause a fire in the future. The technicians was prompt, courteous and explained everything thoroughly. They were also very good at getting me on the schedule asap even though it was the busy season. I had to get the fireplace fixed before closing on my home and they were very responsive in my time of need. They also did a full chimney sweep and inspection."

Chimney Sweep questions, answered by experts

Yes, professionals use specialized treatments to remove smoke odors and improve indoor air quality.

Challenges include ensuring structural safety, completing soot removal, meeting restoration codes, and effectively managing insurance claims.

The timeline for smoke damage remediation can range from a single day to several months, depending on the extent of the damage, the size of the affected area, and the methods used. For minor damage, such as removing cigarette smoke odors from a single room, the process might take only one to two days and typically involves deep cleaning, painting, and sealing walls. Some methods, like ozone treatments, can take 24 to 48 hours, though multiple treatments may be necessary. More extensive smoke damage, such as from a house fire, can take three weeks or longer to clean and treat. If significant material restoration or replacement is needed, the timeline can extend to six to 12 months. A smoke damage restoration professional can provide a more accurate estimate for your specific situation.

Restoration involves assessing damage, cleaning, deodorizing, repairing structures, and replacing damaged items, following a detailed and systematic approach.

Depending on who’s doing the estimating, about 22,000 to 25,000 chimney fires happen each year in the United States. Given the fact that millions of Americans have fireplaces (and chimneys), that means chimney fires aren’t exactly common—but they’re not rare, either. Since they’re so dangerous, it’s important to take precautions to prevent them.
