"We are so glad we hired Eddie and his Team for our basement drywall installation! They completed the drywall for our bathroom and around our mechanical area. We reached out for a quote and Eddie came out that same week, and was able to start our project within a few days. They were very professional and did an amazing job cutting the drywall to the basement ceiling (we will be doing a blackout ceiling). We will absolutely be calling them when we are ready to proceed with the next portion of our basement!"

"Kevin was very professional, courteous and understanding person. Always responded to phone calls and any questions I had. He had good team that did the job satisfactory. On the other side, the job has become so specialized that while installing the dry wall of the ceiling, if a crack is noticed on the connecting drywall of the wall, it will not be informed nor repaired as it is not in the contract. I had to hire another guy to do the repair in drywall of the wall before painting. I still recommend him to get the job done. I still have to see how Kevin responds to phone calls about any issues, if at all arise later."

Small jobs welcome

"The work involved adding drywall to change the height of a closet door and repair damage, replacing trim on entry door, installing closet doors and paint. Peter was a pleasure to deal with. He and his staff responded promptly to all communications. He showed up on time every time and did a great job. Highly recommend."

"Phil did an amazing job with the work he did on our home! We recently purchased a 4 bedroom 2 bath home. Phil painted all of the ceilings, walls, base boards, door and window trim for the entire house. He even pointed out other things about our home and fixed them without hassle! Phil’s attention to detail was impeccable and really made our house feel new. He was incredibly professional, transparent, and very knowledgeable about his services. Couldn’t have asked for a better person to update our house and really make it feel like a home before we moved in. Phil made the process easy and was incredibly fair with his pricing for his services. I would highly recommend anyone to contact Roppo Decorating if you need help with painting or other household work. Thank you for all that you did Phil!"

"We hired Luis to repair damaged drywall and plaster walls. Luis was timely in his responses to questions and made us feel comfortable with his suggestions. He showed up on time and finished our project quickly. With drywall repair there can be a lot of dust, but Luis left his work area clean. Will hire him again for future projects."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You can put drywall mud over paint to even out the surface or entirely resurface it. Sand the surface with 280-grit sandpaper, vacuum the debris and dust with a shop vac, and clean it with a slightly damp cloth. Allow the surface to dry. Apply drywall primer, especially if you’re skim-coating an entire wall. Apply the right type of drywall mud over the surface and smooth it with a trowel. Allow the layer to cure fully, then sand it before applying another layer or painting it.

Both plaster and drywall are durable wall finishes, but they differ significantly in installation, cost, performance, and aesthetics.

Installation & Cost: Drywall installation is faster and more affordable, typically costing $1.50 to $3 per square foot. It uses premade sheets, making it a more accessible DIY project. Plastering is a labor-intensive craft that requires specialized skills, pushing costs to $2 to $10 per square foot. It involves applying a wet paste over a lath framework.

Durability & Performance: Plaster is generally more durable, longer-lasting, and provides superior soundproofing. It is also a better insulator, which can help reduce energy costs. Drywall is easier to remove for future renovations.

Aesthetics: Drywall provides a smooth, uniform surface ready for paint or texture. Plaster offers a high-end, naturally textured look that can hide imperfections and is often preferred for achieving a classic or historic aesthetic.

Which is better? The choice depends on your priorities. Drywall is ideal for those prioritizing a lower upfront cost, faster installation, and DIY potential. Plaster is the better option for a higher-end project where durability, soundproofing, and a unique, premium finish are more important than the initial cost.

It’s always better to follow proven drywall repair tips and fix the seams that look bad. However, if you simply want to make them less noticeable until you have time to fix them, you can use paint. A darker color of paint makes bad drywall tape seams less noticeable than light-colored paint. Matte paint hides bad seams better than glossy paint does, too.

Some textures are easier than others to DIY, but the short answer is yes, you can absolutely texture walls yourself. You’ll need certain materials, like a trowel or paint sprayer, but the most important things you’ll need are patience and time. DIYing wall texture can save money and be a fun, messy project, but homeowners need to know that adding texture to a wall isn’t a quick project.

Drying alone can take 1 to 4 hours to dry to the touch per plaster layer, but some types of plaster take several hours longer to dry. However, this doesn’t mean the job is done because plaster doesn’t fully harden until it cures, which can take a few days to a couple of weeks. It may take even longer if you’re building a new, pretty thick plaster wall. Allow the plaster to cure before painting it.
