"They performed electrical work for our basement. They were very professional and quick. The turnround time for the project was about a day. They performed electrical switches for lights, and outlets. The end product worked effectively. We highly recommend them."

"Joe was a great help with our electrical projects. We had several smaller projects that we needed done in our new house. He recommended some ways to simplify our projects, quoted a reasonable cost, and performed great work. He even did a great job cleaning up after finishing. I would highly recommend him for your project!"

"I'm glad we hired A and Z. Barry Goldstein gave us a call and come to our residence to look at the work needed. Barry is a great and sincere person and we enjoy the small talk but got to business. We were in need of GFCI electric switches in the kitchen, bathroom, and other areas. Plus, we need new electrical outlets in our closets in both bedrooms and have the pulley taken out, and ad a fixture on the outside of the closet. We also had a hazard with the powerline where the clamps that are attached to the outside wall of the house were hanging out. Plus the kitchen exhaust fan and the ceiling fan needed to be installed and they did. The crew explained what is expected in the process and the price. They placed it back to her tight in order for us to get COMED to fix the wiring. They came and fixed the job and did it cleanly and professionally. The crew was great to talk to and we felt they value customer service no matter what the job. We like their overall work and are responsive. I recommend A to Z for anyone looking for small to big jobs. Great job they did."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

You can add an electrical outlet outside by sending a wire through the wall from an existing interior outlet. Without having to open up walls, you can thread a new electrical cable from the existing outlet through the wall and to the exterior. You’ll need to cut a hole in the siding to place your new outlet. Ensure that your outdoor outlet is a GFCI outlet (ground fault circuit interrupter outlet) per the National Electrical Code. It’s best to hire an electrician to add an outdoor outlet unless you have previous electrical experience.

Both can and canless lights have distinct advantages, and the better option depends on your specific needs and preferences. Canless lights are often preferred for modern homes due to their slim, low-profile design, energy efficiency, and ability to fit in tight spaces with less ceiling depth required. Can lights, or traditional recessed lights, provide a classic look and may be better for high ceilings or areas that need stronger, more focused light. While they can be durable, they typically require more ceiling space and installation work. Ultimately, you should choose canless lights for a modern look and energy savings, or opt for can lights for a traditional aesthetic and robust lighting in larger spaces.

Many ceiling fan-rated electrical boxes tend to be made of metal. However, some electrical boxes may also be made of heavy-duty plastic that is reinforced with metal support structures. It may also have an attachment that connects directly to a ceiling joist. If you are ever ensure, consult with a licensed professional to get their insight on best practices and whether the installation is a safe one.

Yes, the majority of appliances that run at 240v will work with a 220v outlet, but will often run slower and may have a slight delay in turning on. This could also cause long term damage to the appliance being used, so it’s recommended to always use the correct voltage for your appliance and upgrade to a 240v outlet if needed.

A circuit breaker flipping off when it detects an overloaded circuit isn’t a problem, but flipping the switch frequently can damage it and eventually cause an electrical hazard. If you’re going on a long vacation or leaving your home for the season, you should avoid turning off your circuit breaker to prevent electrical damage to your system.
