"They performed electrical work for our basement. They were very professional and quick. The turnround time for the project was about a day. They performed electrical switches for lights, and outlets. The end product worked effectively. We highly recommend them."

"Project was done quickly. Price was higher that others, but I hired them because they could address my issue immediately that same day. I had a small fire in my electrical box and needed the box and breakers replaced. Tech was knowledgeable and nice work work with and provided updates as he worked. He finished the job within a few hours. Reason for 4 stars instead of 5…price was high. Also, I came home the day after the job was done and my furnace was off and my washer/dryer breaker was tripped. Haven’t determined the cause yet, but will provide an update once I figure it out or have Precision back out to check things."

"I'm glad we hired A and Z. Barry Goldstein gave us a call and come to our residence to look at the work needed. Barry is a great and sincere person and we enjoy the small talk but got to business. We were in need of GFCI electric switches in the kitchen, bathroom, and other areas. Plus, we need new electrical outlets in our closets in both bedrooms and have the pulley taken out, and ad a fixture on the outside of the closet. We also had a hazard with the powerline where the clamps that are attached to the outside wall of the house were hanging out. Plus the kitchen exhaust fan and the ceiling fan needed to be installed and they did. The crew explained what is expected in the process and the price. They placed it back to her tight in order for us to get COMED to fix the wiring. They came and fixed the job and did it cleanly and professionally. The crew was great to talk to and we felt they value customer service no matter what the job. We like their overall work and are responsive. I recommend A to Z for anyone looking for small to big jobs. Great job they did."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Palos Heights, popular electrical upgrades include smart switches, whole-house surge protection, and home office wiring improvements. Many homeowners are adding under-cabinet LED lighting, recessed lighting, and upgrading electrical panels for better capacity. Outdoor trends include landscape lighting and security lighting with motion sensors. These projects not only enhance convenience but also improve home electrical safety and energy efficiency.

Helpful?

Frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, or outlets that feel warm in your Palos Heights home may signal the need for electrical repairs. Outdated wiring types, such as knob-and-tube or aluminum, often require replacement for safety. Missing GFCI outlets in required areas, overcrowded panels, or visible damage like exposed wires are warning signs. Unprofessional or undocumented DIY work is another clear indicator that a licensed electrical contractor should inspect your system.

Helpful?

Homes in Palos Heights with multiple levels, finished basements, or brick exteriors can make electrical projects more complex. Older houses with plaster walls or tight, compartmentalized layouts may limit access for new wiring installations. Dense landscaping and close lot lines can also present challenges for outdoor electrical work. Planning ahead with an experienced electrical contractor helps address these structural obstacles and ensures your project meets local requirements.

Helpful?

In Palos Heights, homeowners often skip required permits or attempt DIY electrical work that should be handled by a licensed electrical contractor. Overlooking code requirements—like installing GFCI outlets in kitchens and bathrooms—can create safety hazards. Failing to plan for future electrical needs, using mismatched wire types, or not updating outdated panels are also frequent mistakes that can compromise home electrical safety and efficiency.

Helpful?

When reviewing quotes in Palos Heights, be wary of electrical contractors offering unusually low bids or only verbal estimates. Watch out for anyone suggesting you skip permits or required inspections, as this can lead to code violations. Lack of proof of insurance, no local references, or pressure for full upfront payment are also concerns. Always look for detailed written estimates, clear project timelines, and a willingness to explain how work complies with local codes.
