"My only complaint about 5 Star is the fact that they don't do anything else house rehab related other than their specialty. They are the only contractors that I have hired in 9+ years that said what they were going to do before the project started , delivered on time in a very professional manner with a minimum of disruption and dealing with a host of other things that necessitated repairing when the old driveway was removed that I had no idea was needed nor was prepared to fix. They worked with me along the way patiently while we had electrical work, brick masonary work, and landscaping , AC work . Some of whom were professionals found and recommended by 5 Star . As to whether I would hire them again I am hiring them again to do sod / stamped concrete project."

"Project: replaced existing driveway and stairs with new cement; installed a new concrete patio I would highly recommend Garcia Concrete Solutions for any cement project. Caesar provided a reasonable estimate and had clear communication throughout the process. They identified a concern with the pitch of the driveway and provided a solution. The workers were always on time and completed the project within the communicated timeframe. We are happy with the work and glad that we chose their company."

"Dan repaired and replace some loose pavers on my walkways which the city dislodged when they put in a new sidewalk. He and his team did a great job! They escavated a few more pavers to fully relevel the area, put a base of sand, reset all the pavers (figuring out the puzzle of all the pattern of different size pavers, and refilled the gaps with sand. Even though they were interrupted by a city crew that showed up and trimmed trees right above them, they stayed and got the job done the day they had planned to complete it. Everything came out looking great and as if damage had never occurred. Communications via phone and text were quick, easy to understand and timely. Everything was very professional and the area was left cleaner than when they arrived! Would definitely recommend!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The driveway apron is a technical term referring to where a private driveway meets the public street. If there is a sidewalk in front of the house, the driveway apron is typically on the opposite side of the public sidewalk from the driveway itself.

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.

Instead of a set number of types, asphalt comes in variations designed for different needs. Some are categorized by temperature—hot mix, warm mix, and cold mix. Others are sorted by composition, like dense-graded, gap-graded (such as Stone Matrix Asphalt), porous, and mastic asphalt. There are also modified versions with added compounds like polymers, rubber, or emulsions. Instead of focusing on a number, it may be more useful to understand how contractors customize asphalt for durability, climate, and traffic conditions.

A driveway approach is the part of a driveway where the public road meets the private driveway. This section contains several key elements, including the driveway apron, the curb cut, and the end slope. Depending on the slope of the driveway, this area may also contain the trench drain.

Professionals ensure a solid base and smooth finish, enhancing durability and appearance.
