"William and his crew were punctual, courteous, and professional. William walked me through the process for the work, inspected the areas he needed to access, and answered all my questions with enthusiasm which made me feel respected as a customer. They worked diligently and when the whole job was complete, including air quality testing, he walked me through for approval. I truly think my basement was left cleaner than before they started. I had nothing to clean up, throw out, or pick up after they were done. I am so pleased I used BlueStone for my Asbestos removal project and their pricing was right in line with a competitor. Thank you!"

"David, at Gardner Environmental Services, professionally performed numerous air sample tests inside our home due to a minor smelling of mold in one spot.Fortunately, his lab resource came back with negative results on each location sample David tested. David was reassuring and pleasant to work with. I would recommend his company, to anyone."

"They were very professional honest and showed up on time. Another company to come out and they were trying to pitch me and the idea of me destroy my entire basement to get rid of some mold. The guys at Black rock environmental did not! They even took an air test afterwards confirming everything they said they would do. I strongly recommend them. Two thumbs up!"

Went great.  Dominic was fantastic in explaining everything to me during the inspection.  And, all the workers who came to set up all the equipment and remove the drywall were very understanding of the situation with my son (who has special needs) and the fans/dehumidifiers that had to be set up - there had to be plenty of room to move around so they were careful to leave the plastic containment areas (with the machines in them) with enough space for my son to be able to maneuver, and for me to get to the back door to still be able to let the dog out into the back yard!  The workers accidentally picked up my son's jacket when they left (he threw it down on the floor as he went into a seizure from being overwhelmed with all the noise from the machines), but they made sure it was returned when they came back to turn off all the machines and remove the equipment.  Adam and the crew were great!

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

Yes, testing professionals typically provide reports with recommendations for safe lead removal.

DIY kits are available for basic air quality testing, but professional services provide more comprehensive results and recommendations. While a DIY kit may seem cost-effective, a professional assessment is more thorough. Inspectors are better equipped to catch all pollutants and hazards, and you'll still need a professional to verify and act on DIY test results. Furthermore, some kits don't test for certain pollutants or only detect their presence without measuring specific levels (like mold spores). It's generally better to opt for a detailed professional assessment.

How you test for lead in your water depends on the source of your home's water supply. If you have municipal water, your local water system may offer to test the water for free or may connect you to a lab that will perform the testing.

If you have a private well that provides drinking water, you are responsible for testing it for lead. Look for a lab that is accredited by your state's Department of Environmental Protection to perform the test.

Structural problems with the foundation or roof, water damage, and significant plumbing or electrical issues are all considered major red flags in a home inspection. Of these, a structural problem related to the foundation is often the most severe. Foundation repairs are typically the most expensive and intrusive to carry out, averaging around $5,000 but sometimes reaching up to $16,000. Because these problems can pose safety risks and be costly to fix, you should ask your inspector detailed questions about any identified issues. You will need to carefully consider how major problems affect what you’re willing to pay for the home, or if you want to proceed with the sale at all.

If your house was built before 1978 and you’re noticing cracking or peeling paint, a lead paint inspection is a good idea. A lead paint inspection gives you accurate information about the presence, location, and condition of lead-based paint in your home. This information is essential for making informed decisions about lead paint removal to ensure your safety and health and that of your family. If your inspector finds lead, you’ll need to take steps to manage or remove the lead-based paint and comply with laws and regulations.
