"We highly recommend PJ Construction and was very pleased with their work. We requested an estimate to finish off an area of our attic, make improvements to an attic bedroom space, and drywall and move some walls in our basement. Paul came to the house the very next morning and promptly e-mailed us a detailed estimate that allowed us to choose which work we wanted to complete. Pricing was very reasonable so we hired him to drywall part of the attic, rebuild a wall the separates the attic stairs, paint the attic bedroom, lay laminate in the attic bedroom, remove part of a wall in the basement, move a wall and build a new one in the basement, place thin drywall over some pine in the basement to finish off a room, and drywall basement stairs. The work took about 2 weeks to complete. Paul was good at communicating when he was able to start, and how things were progressing throughout the job. He and his worker were very clean. They put down tarps when walking or moving equipment in other parts of the house and cleaned up work spaces each evening. He is perfectionistic in the work. The drywall is smooth and flawless. The laminate was laid perfectly. The new framed landed is perfect and looks great. The paint was very well done. (A day after the last coat dried the worker noticed some unevenness in the ceiling paint and fixed it without being asked.) There is no evidence that there used to walls in the places were we requested he move them. A REALLY EXCELLENT JOB. We were BEYOND pleased and would hire them again in a heart beat. Beyond exceptional work Paul is courteous but task oriented. A perfect combination in my book. We love our new attic bedroom and basement playroom. THANKS!

"John and 41 North is great to work with and very client-service oriented. His prices are fair, the estimates are detailed, his team's work is of high quality and he is very communicative. He did some remodeling work for us on our siding, deck and windows and we were very happy with the results. He also upgraded our electrical. We then re-engaged the next year to do our hardscape patio and back landscaping. When rain delayed our progress, he rushed the job to get it done in time for a party we were having. We intend to continue working with 41 North as we continue to upgrade our older Chicago home. I highly recommend this company."

"The service was top notch and would definitely use the service again. Contractor was very professional and always honest with the situation. Price was a bit higher than I initially budgeted for but the quality of work more than made up for the higher cost. I was very pleased with the whole job being completed in 3 weeks when it was initially estimated for a 4 week process. Any future home construction jobs in the future, I will immediately call this contractor first.

Barndominium Builders questions, answered by experts

Due to the expansion of the tiny house movement, you can usually find tiny houses to buy in your state. Prices range considerably based on size, style, and type. If you’re looking for a tiny home that’s move-in ready, you may be able to find a good deal to buy or a prefab dealer near you.

The steep slope of an A-frame roof withstands high winds, heavy rain, and heavy snowfall, making them popular all over the world. A-frames also offer simple, quick construction. Finally, an A-frame typically has large windows on the non-roof sides to let in a maximum amount of natural light. Consequently, they are often an affordable building solution for the right homeowner and location.

Tiny houses, often called tiny homes, need between 100 to 400 square feet, with the most common size being between 200 and 300 square feet. Tiny houses more than 400 square feet venture into apartment-size dwellings and may be considered more of a traditional house than a tiny home. The number of occupants, desired lifestyle, and furniture will all be major factors that determine the desired tiny house size.

You can use a variety of wood to build a barn door, but the most common options include 1-by boards and 2-by boards for the backing and the decorative boards on the front of the door. Softwoods like pine will save you some money and should hold up well, while hardwoods like maple and oak will stand up to more wear and tear. You could also build the backer out of plywood to minimize the cuts you need to make. Whatever you decide on, make sure the width of the wood is compatible with the mounting brackets you buy.

The best lumber for building will be the strongest and most eco-friendly wood your budget allows. That being said, Douglas fir, pine, oak, and maple are all common building materials. Contractors will use a strong, inexpensive wood to frame a house or other structure and finer woods like mahogany for detail work.
