"Steve, Bama, Chris all great guys. Steve the owner is kind and knows how to get the job done for a good price. Their work was top quality. We had Steve redo the bathroom with tile in the shower and floor. Ripped out and gutted the previous shower, floor, and laid all new. Steve and the crew did a fantastic job. Tile laid great, quality craftsmanship with the work, and done at a fair price. Went to menards and just picked out what I wanted. Steve and his crew then picked it all up and transported it to my house no charge. Saved me a ton of time and hassle since I don t have a pickup. Steve and his crew were very trustworthy. I gave them a key and just said have at it when I went to work everyday. No problems at all. Always picked up at the end of the day and left the house livable and not a mess. They were true pros. One last point I want to make is the craftsmanship and how good the tile was laid. Alabama is a great guy who does fantastic work! Chris and Bama were a great team to have at the house and I would recommend them to you reading this review. I will be using them for my next tiling job - enough said. Thank you all."

"Overall, we are very satisfied with the services provided. I was nervous at first, because after they left the first day, the paint wasn't even and there was some paint on our tile. We called them back immediately, and then were very respectful and scheduled an appt for the next morning to fix the paint job. The next day, after the 2nd coat, the room looked amazing. They even got all the paint off the tile. They were very friendly and we will definitely be using their services in the future."

"Excellent - I ended up hiring someone to help with shopping and finishing piece - waste of time and money. Jill's service was by far the most useful and best value in my decorating process.

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Most professional shower tile installations take between six and eight hours, depending on the size and complexity. Most projects get completed in a single workday. DIY-ing the project takes around three to four days or roughly 16 hours. However, this will vary based on the skill level of the person completing the work.

The average cost for tile installation is about $2,000, with a typical price range between $500 and $6,500. On a per-square-foot basis, you can expect to pay between $5 and $45 for installation.

Several factors influence the total cost, including:

  • Installation Site: Costs vary for different areas. Common project costs are: kitchen floor ($870–$6,100), countertop or backsplash ($500–$3,000), bathroom floor ($300–$2,400), or shower wall ($225–$2,000).

  • Tile Type and Quality: The material significantly impacts price. For example, standard ceramic or travertine tile can cost about $1 per square foot, while luxury options like marble can be as much as $350 per square foot for the material alone.

  • Project Size and Complexity: The total square footage, the complexity of the pattern, and the shape of the tile (e.g., square, rectangle, hexagon, mosaic) will affect labor and material costs.

  • Site Preparation: The amount of prep work needed, such as removing old tile or installing a new subfloor or backer board, can add to the final price.

  • Tile Characteristics: The tile's durability rating and porosity can also influence the price.

  • Location: Labor rates vary by geographic location.

If you’re out of spacers for your tile installation, you can use pennies. Each time you place a tile, stick the pennies around the edges (on the sides and the corners). Like working with spacers, you’ll want the same amount of space around each tile before they set.

Yes, provided you aren’t installing drywall over it. But you can skim coat it, apply new tile right on top, paint it, or stencil it. For more budget- and DIY-friendly options, you can install beadboard or apply decals. Just make sure that the current tiles are in good condition and prepped well for the paint or adhesive to stick.

Yes, it’s always a good idea to keep a box or two of spare tiles after a home renovation project. Tiles can crack from improper installation, heavy foot traffic, and impact from drops. Having some extra tile on hand can make replacement fast, easy, and affordable. Plus, some manufacturers might discontinue particular colors or styles, and slight variations in tile colors between batches could mean mismatched tiles even if your product isn’t discontinued. Having a few spare tiles in storage can help avoid these issues, as well.
