"These folks trimmed a tree in the front yard and removed the tree in the backyard. They left the yard cleaner than when they arrived. I could not recommend accompany any higher for any type of work these folks do."

"I was extremely happy with Tree Brothers. They took down about an 80 foot maple tree, being very careful not to destroy any nearby property. They ground the stump, and cleaned the yard afterwards. Kyle was very professional, great communication, and all of his workers were very friendly.Until I found them, it was hard to get anyone to respond, but he was right on it! Thank you Kyle and Tree Brothers!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Permits are often required for large tree removals, especially in urban areas or for protected species, ensuring regulation compliance and neighbor safety.

In general, trees should be planted no closer than 15 to 20 feet from your foundation. For larger trees with far-reaching roots like maples, oaks, or poplars, a good guide is to plant as many feet from your home as the tree’s height is expected to reach at maturity. Some trees, like elms and willows, should only be planted far from where their roots may encounter sewer or water lines.

Generally, if your neighbor’s tree hangs over your yard, you can legally trim overhanging branches. Keep in mind that you cannot cross your property line to cut the trees, and if you damage the tree by trimming it, your neighbor could sue you. Depending on the type of tree and value, this could mean dishing out two to three times the value of the tree.

It’s worth noting that the specifics of this type of tree maintenance and the guidelines around it may vary by location. Do your research and, most importantly, consult with your neighbor.

Unless there’s some sort of rule in your community’s homeowners’ association that requires you to remove a stump, there’s no law that says you have to take it out. If you’re not wedded to the idea of removing it, there are plenty of ways to get creative with this tree remnant. Using the stump as the medium for a wood carving or turning it into a planter are just two examples of ways to repurpose a tree stump.

Most trees can be successfully transplanted while they are young, but pines, walnuts, and some oak tree varieties are more difficult to move because their root systems grow deeper than most other trees. Also, trees adapted to sandy soil with wide root systems like beeches, willows, and aspens are harder to dig out because their roots spread much farther out from the trunk. In these cases, unless the trees are very young and small, it’s a good idea to consult a tree planting professional.
