"I hired MH Renovations this summer to add a bedroom over a two-story foyer. The job required significant framing work, adding a window, external brickwork, drywall installation, and an electric circuit. Matt provided me with a detailed proposal, which was the least invasive in the existing building structure and had reasonable pricing compared to the others. He also agreed I'd do the finishing jobs, which saved me some good money. He and his team did an amazing job in record time, respecting my schedule and property. The workspace was kept tidy, so there was minimal disruption in our everyday living conditions. Matt is a great communicator; he made sure I was informed of what and when was to be done next, and he coordinated his work with other subcontractors and village inspectors. Matt is a very respectful and kind person, and it was a real pleasure to work with him and his team!"

This was one of the most positive experiences we have ever had with a contractor. Within one day of contacting Closet Organizing System via email we received a callback. We explained what our goal was and what we were interested in pursuing. We then received a very prompt call from the Designer, Rich, who set up an appointment at our convenience in the evening since we both work. He listened carefully to what our goals were and took measurements of all the spaces. His then went to work on designing the systems for each space. He kept us updated through email on his progress. Again at our convenience in the evening he presented his ideas. He was right on and we loved everything he suggested. He was a true professional with over 30 years of experience in designing and installing closet systems. We even discovered that he had installed my in-laws systems 25 years ago. They still look great and are very functional. The pricing was right where we thought it would be and within our budget so we approved the project. Rich clearly explained what prep work would have to be done (removal of existing shelving, patching of holes and painting). We contacted our painter and created a schedule to do the project in two phases over two weeks. They were very accommodating to again meet our busy work schedules. The coordinator contacted us via email two to assure that everything was set up correctly. The project was then handed over to the installer, Todd. He was a true professional, very courteous, and knew what he was doing. All surfaces were protected and cleanup when he was done. The end product is fabulous. The night that the project was completed, Rich came by to check the work and to assure that we were happy. Incredible Customer Service from start to finish. The entire process took less than a month. We good not be happier and would recommend this organization to anyone seeking to better organize their living space.

"Excellent job! We hired the company for few projects- custom walk-in closets, cabinets and laundry. The precision and attention to detail was exceptional. It was very nice to work with and they listened to every request we made. We were very pleased with the overall experience and will hire them again. Strongly recommend."

"Zach and Mike, the owners of Chicagoland Home Products are highly professional, and their products and installation are exceptional. Their team arrives when they say they are going to arrive, they work quietly and efficiently, and never leave a mess when they are finished. Not once was there an issue with the measurements or the install of any of the products - everything has fit like a glove and looks beautiful. I found Chicagoland Home Products three years ago when my house was being built and I was not happy with the closet shelving gentleman that was hired by the builder to do all the closet shelving. I searched and found Chicagoland Products and met with Zach to discuss what I wanted in the closet shelving design. Zach listened carefully and got the designs perfect. We spent several hours at the house going through all the closet spaces, pantry and storage areas. That evening Zach had emailed me the drawings for all the closets; we tweaked a couple things and the drawings were complete the next day. I was amazed at how quickly he had drawings for me. I am immensely pleased with the closets, and especially pleased that the pricing was better than the builder's contractor. The builder has been using Chicagoland Home Products ever since to install closet systems in his houses and condos. The slat board storage system in my garage was the best decision I have ever made - storage is a big problem living in the city and that system has solved that problem... it is wonderful. My window treatments are beautiful. And again, exactly like the closets and the garage, I had a design meeting with Zach at the house and he had drawings and pricing for me in a day. Call Zach, you will not be disappointed."

The average cost to hire a woodworker for a project in your home is around $65 per hour, but hourly rates can range from $35 to $250 or more, depending on the experience and skill of the woodworker. Your total woodworking project cost will depend on the complexity of the work, the type of wood, the number of projects, and any other materials your project requires. You could hire a professional woodworker to create everything from a custom cabinet to ornate, unique staircases.
Generally, general contractors charge between $50 and $150 hourly, though not every contractor charges by the hour. If charging based on the project, you can expect a markup of 10% to 20% of the construction cost. You can expect to pay between $300 and $500 daily if charged by the day.
While city and state laws vary on general contractor licensing requirements, hiring an unlicensed general contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines for your area.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Every woodworker has different skills and experience, so we recommend asking the following questions when hiring a woodworker for your project:
How long have you been in the woodworking industry?
What experience do you have with my type of project?
Do you have customer references I can speak with?
How long do you expect my project to take?
What is my recourse if I have an issue with your work?
Do you charge hourly or per project?
Will you work on-site or in your own workshop?
Does your fee include the necessary post-job clean-up?
While they perform similar tasks, a carpenter is responsible for the woodworking that goes into construction—like framing, installing sheathing, and hanging kitchen cabinets—while a woodworker tackles more intricate and custom projects—like building custom furniture and installing wainscoting. Based on these definitions, most woodworkers can tackle the jobs of a carpenter, but you should always ask about your specific project when choosing a woodworker to ensure they have the necessary skills to tackle the job.
