"Matt F. from Chicago Locksmiths came to unlock my door that I locked myself out of. He was fast, efficient and courteous. He observed all COVID-19 safety protocols too. What else could you ask for in a locksmith. The price not outrageous either ($110). I would highly recommend Matt F. from Chicago Locksmiths."

"Jason's craftsmanship is superb!!! I live in a home built in 1956 and have a beautiful solid wood door.  Ok, the beauty was under layers of paint and neglect but he also saw the beauty in what it could be...and he has the skill to make that happen!
Too often there are 'handymen' who want to make small fixes but Jason is a skilled carpenter and I would highly recommend him. The door frame was crooked as the house foundation had settled and the area under the door would shift with periods of rain/dry weather.  Not only did he restore the door, but he was able to fix this problem as well.  He had to use a more modern feature to help with the gaping of the door, but he incorporated it well to go with the older look of the door.
I am also impressed with Jason's creativity as he came up with a wonderful industrial finish for the door. The painters he used to help finish the work were also both professional and solid in their skill.  If you have a project where you need true craftsmanship, I would call this professional carpenter for the job!!!
He also gave me a great price to install pre-made cabinets over my washer/dryer as well as cut and install a cat door in the door leading to my garage. I was so glad he installed the cabinets because as with most older homes, the were surprises with the wall the cabinets were being hung on. But with his skill, he was able to securely fasten the cabinets and they look great!
Rapid Remodeling is reliable and works with your schedule. The price was for the front door restoration was fair and comparable to other quotes however, I choose Rapid Remodeling as he actually listened to me and discussed the project with me. When he returned to do the actual work, he remembered me and what we had previously discussed. I did not feel pressured to that I was being 'sold' additional work as I have felt with other contractors/handymen.
I will definitely use Rapid Remodeling again!

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Lock picking is a relatively subtle method of unauthorized access, making it hard to detect. But there are telltale signs to look for. First, look for scratches or tool marks around the keyhole or the lock's surface. Also, check for loose or misaligned components, like a wonky strike plate, which could indicate tampering. Consulting a locksmith or security professional for an assessment can provide valuable insights, too. Investing in high-quality locks and considering additional security measures, like security cameras, can help deter potential intruders and enhance your overall safety.

Whether or not keyless door locks are safe and trustworthy depends on the visibility of the programming code—and a trespasser’s determination. Even if you carefully guard entry and programming codes, those trying to break in may be able to crack open the lock’s faceplate with a screwdriver and change the codes. The same goes for manual models.

Some find smart locks the safest option because it’s harder to manipulate codes without access to your phone. But it’s possible to get hacked even then. Consider installing an extended security system, like door and window alarms or surveillance cameras, to enhance security.

A keypad deadbolt, a lock requiring a code entered on a keypad entry, can be a convenient option for families with children coming in and out and needing access to the home. It can also offer an easy solution if you rent your home out, since you can easily change the code as needed. So, depending on your home entry’s needs, a keypad deadbolt may be worth the extra expense.

Expect to pay between $50 to $200 if you hire a locksmith to change your locks. That figure includes labor and the cost of basic hardware. The cost will naturally be higher if you plan to install more expensive locks, like smart locks, and if you need a lot of them.

Homeowners can save money by replacing locks themselves. A typical rekeying kit costs about $10 to $25. The only additional cost is purchasing new house keys, and those are no more than a few dollars per key. If you want to replace the locks on your own completely, the main cost is the price of the locks themselves. A standard knob-style lock starts around $25, while electronic locks and smart locks will run in the hundreds of dollars. The only additional tools you should need are a tape measure, screwdriver, and screws if they are not already provided.

Standard residential deadbolt locks come with a steel bolt that locks your door into place using a key (or keypad) on one side and a thumb turn on the other. When you lock it, the bolt slides into a strike plate on your door jamb to secure your door shut.
