Went to get 3 locks rekeyed and when I dropped of I noticed a Let's Go Brandon flag. When I came back to pickup I noticed the slathering of propaganda, conspiracies, and anti lgbtq speech all over the counter. I don't know why you would do something like this that could alienate customers. This is not my cup of Tea and will not be patroning again because their choice of decor. I like to patron local businesses and they did a go job, but this is a no for me. Feel free to make your own choice.

Super responsive - came within 45 minutes of me calling, impressive! Very pleasant team of two, each doing one of the locks. Won't hesitate to use them again. But will get my extra keys at Home Depot or Lowes next time, as that was that slightly expensive add-on part.

When he came out he saw how much of the door would have to be painted. He worked to get the door handle to stop falling off, which he did. He also gave us tips on how to take care of the existing lock set. Instead of the job costing over $280 his repair ran around $104. He also showed up early at 8:00 am instead of coming between 9 and 11 am. Very professional, we will use again in the future.

It went well. The person who took my call was very professional. He tried to find a way to reduce my cost, and when it was clear they'd need to come out, he was upfront about the service call fee. The scheduling was good - I got someone out quickly the next day. The person who came to make the service call - Clark - was prompt, polite, and did the work. The front door now opens.

I called in the late morning, and the technician came out about two hours later. Fortunately, the company had the lock that I wanted in stock. The technician worked carefully but expeditiously. The mechanism is working exactly as expected.

He offered ways to reduce the cost for what I wanted. He was timely to arrive, did the job quickly, was priced fairly, did the job right the first time, and was friendly, courteous, and professional. I will definitely use him again.

Bob showed up on Saturday morning after I locked myself out (all the doors seemed to automatically lock when they were pulled shut). I had a couple other guys out there to clean the fireplaces at the same time and one of them had been able to open the lock with a card since the deadbolt wasn't latched.
Bob went ahead and rekeyed the locks for me. He put thought into what the best way to key each door would be in order to reduce the overall number of keys I needed. The front door was no easy task -- the lock is very old; I assume it is the original lock for the house (1911). He had to take the enitre lock off the door, but he was able to clean it, figure out how the mechanism worked, and had the right type of key to rekey it to.
Originally I wanted the garage door to be rekeyed as well, but I was told that the door didn't fit very well and ideally, a better door with a new lock would be the way to go. This could then be keyed to match the cellar door. Overall, this would reduce the number of different locks I had down to two -- and the number of duplicate keys I had down to something much more reasonable.
Bob did very good work and when I get a new door on the garage, I plan on having them key that as well.

I closed on my house on 7/10/09 and called Elgin Key and Lock that afternoon. I asked them to re-key all of the exterior locks. They scheduled the appointment less than 24 hours later and the locksmith arrived on time. The work was done per my instructions. The locksmith also showed me some issues with one of my doors and suggested some improvements that could be made in the future. There was no pressure to do anything extra right away. The locksmith also showed me how to use the an extra security bar on an exterior sliding door.

I found Elgin Lock and Key with a local Google search; it is the closest locksmith to my recently-purchased home. After purchasing the home, I wanted to replace the locks on both entry doors. I called and asked for an estimate. Over the phone, I was quoted approximately $75 to replace both sets of locks. The company was able to meet my same-day request, as my house is just down the street. When the contractor came to my home, he was very polite and professional, and brought his own tools. He asked me to sign the estimate, reading $75. He measured the doors, assembled and installed the locks. After the locks were installed and the work was finished, I was given the estimate back: the original $75 was crossed out and replaced with $325. I asked about the price discrepancy, and was told that the locks required more work than anticipated. Did it really require FOUR TIMES the amount of work? I paid the contractor and he left. The locks are top quality and work very well. The price, however, was a bit more than I was expecting to pay.
Response from ELGIN KEY & LOCK CO INC
"Our service manager did run this call on 7/25/2008, originally the customer asked us to rekey or replace 1 deadbolt on front door, possibly rekey/replace garage door knob set. The service call in Elgin at the time was 71.00, and he then had two Schlage deadbolts and 1 knob set installed, requiring additional parts and labor to rebore the holes when he decided to replace the old hardware. The job when first quoted over the phone turned out to be much more when we got there and found what the customer wanted us to do.. He went from rekeying to replacing 2 and adding anbrand new 3rd deadbolt requiring extra labor. We have been in business since 1933, and estimates are based on what the customer requests when the call. If the job changes when we get there, additional parts and labor may be required, and the customer agreed to the higher estimate before we started. and signed an authorization to perform the additional services."
