"I wish I could post more than 5 stars. They are professional, skilled, great people. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and I am more than delighted with their work. Not many lightning protection companies will work on a small house like this. So good to have first-rate protection on this mountain side, lightning-prone house. Mid American is the best."

"I shopped for lightning protection for years in Jacksonville, calling yellow pages ads to no avail. One guy even talked me OUT of installing lightning rods, even though he was listed in the Yellow Pages under lightning protection. Then my house was struck the next year, blowing a hole through the roof!!! I was so mad! Thankfully I found Lightning Defense through HomeAdvisor, and he is a pro. Very responsive, knowledgeable, and great service! Thanks HomeAdvisor and Lightning Defense. Very happy with everything. Just wish I used you earlier instead of the yellow pages."

"I was contacted by a Tech at the assigned time and had to run to the store for a cable I needed. When I called back, I had a different Tech, but he was able to continue right where I had left off. There was no need to explain anything again. Awesome."

"Very professional...both the owner and crew. Careful and meticulous work. Replaced some wood trim that was damaged; moved the heavy furniture...painted a 2-story stairway. Good clean-up each day. And good follow-up on punch list items. Halfway through the project we decided we wanted some additional items painted (powder room and 2 closets...and they fit it into the schedule and the added charge was very reasonable.

What impressed me most was the owner caught some issues that I had missed in punch list items. Increased my confidence in his ability to do a good job. He cares about the quality of his and his crew's work.

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Professional services ensure safe installations, reliable repairs, and compliance with codes emphasizing safety in electrical networks.

If your fan is ceiling-mounted and will vent through the attic to the outside, you will need an electrician to handle the wiring, and if you need to install ductwork for the first time or replace existing ductwork, you will need an HVAC professional as well.

It’s not recommended to turn off your breaker box in hopes of saving electricity. Breaker boxes were not designed to constantly be switched on and off. Therefore, turning off breakers unnecessarily can cause costly damage that outnumbers any energy savings. Only flip your breakers if absolutely necessary when troubleshooting an electrical issue.

You shouldn’t hook up a solar panel directly to a battery. That can damage the solar battery and your appliances over time. Instead, install a charge controller between your solar panel and solar battery. Charge controllers regulate voltage, prevent overcharging, and minimize the amount of electrical current to protect your battery from voltage spikes.

You can determine what size generator you need for a transfer switch by matching the switch to the largest outlet on your generator. Larger generators can power up to 10 circuits, while most 5,000-watt generators can provide power to six circuits. So, if your generator’s largest outlet is 30 amps, you’ll need a 30-amp transfer switch.
