"This was an excellent experience from start to finish. They contacted me immediately and scheduled an appointment to come out and look at what I was looking to do. After understanding my needs they created a design suggestion and I loved it, they sent me the design and price quote and once I signed off on it they contacted me to schedule the installation. They kept in contact with me, sent me the installers name and my installers showed up on time, was done in 45 minutes, they completely cleaned up and were very professional, polite and easy to work with. I was very happy and I would highly recommend them."

"Bk carpenters are the type of craftsmen other contractors should strive to be. Made me think about how my grandfather would say things once were. A man who gives you his word and sticks to it. Brian said he would be here at 8am and he was there at 7:45. No corners cut and the attention to detail blew me away. I couldnâ t be happier. Iâ ll definitely be using bk for future projects."

"Joe Rodriguez did an excellent job building my composite deck. He listened to what I wanted and he delivered. His craftsmanship is top notch! He is very knowledgeable in his craft. He explained exactly what he was going to do ?exceeding my expectations. He started when he said he?d start; and finished in a timely manner. He was courteous and professional. He removed all debris and left my property how he found it. I?m really pleased with my new deck?as my neighbors and family have stopped by to see the deck; I?ve received so many compliments. I simply cannot stop looking at my deck. I?d hire him and his partner again. And, I?d most definitely recommend him to build your deck."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

The cost to install a bow window can range from $1,500 to $15,000, with a national average of $3,900. The total price includes materials, which can cost between $1,200 and over $14,000, and labor, which typically adds $300 to $1,900. Several factors influence the final cost, including the window's size and frame material. For example, vinyl frames are the most budget-friendly option, while wood frames are more expensive. Custom features or energy-efficient upgrades will also increase the price. For comparison, a bay window installation typically costs between $1,000 and $7,000.

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

Yes, walls on the top floor can be load-bearing if stacked on the floor’s foundation.
