After 5 days the dry wall work was very poorly done. It was was uneven.  He never showed up on time and when he did show up he immediately left to go get parts.  He know what the job entailed, so we never understood why he did not go get parts before he came, especially since he was an hour to 2 hours late every time he arrived.  His behavior was erratic and strange, he looked like he had not showered.  I would not be surprised if he was on drugs.  When it became clear that his work was unacceptable we informed him that we would no longer need his services.  He begged to be given a second chance.  When we declined he sent an email a couple of days later informing us that we owed him $340 for work he did not complete.  He tried to play the victim and then threatened to put a contractor's lien on our house if we did not pay him.  We did some research and found out that a contractor's lien is easy to get in Illinois.  So in order to avoid the hassle, we paid him the money.  I would stay REALLY FAR AWAY from this guy.  He sucks.

I was pleased with the work at the time.  However the deck that was to have lasted about 5 years didn't make it through the first winter.  In May 2013 the owner came to look at the deck and agreed that the work was bad.  He assured me he would make it right.  Every time it rained, it got worse.  Two weeks later I called him and he said he was working on a plan to correct the peeling wood and popped nails.  I have called multiple times since then and e-mailed as well, with absolutely no response.  According to the BBB the company is out of business; Angie's List seems to have that information as well.  I have considered visiting him in person but am hesitant.  I just want a usable deck without paying again.  This provider is on FaceBook as a fiction writer, but I have not attempted to contact him through FB.  His company did some other work for me that remains very good.  Whether he is in or out of business, he should make good on the work done under his name.  There was no written guarantee (my big mistake).

We contacted You've Got A Guy to do several jobs, but we narrowed it down to just one set for the initial visit: installing a keyed deadbolt on one door, a footbolt on another door, and possibly an unkeyed deadbolt on a third door. Matt came by to look at the various jobs and gave us some tips about the locks to buy. We got the locks and set up the work date, which was definitely within a reasonable time frame from when we contacted him (unfortunately, I don't remember the specifics anymore, but we were not in a rush, yet they still worked us in within one week, I think).
The work was done primarily by a workman who was not Matt (again, I'm sorry I can't remember his name), and it was fine. The keyed deadbolt presented some problems because the door itself is old and does not fit perfectly snugly into the frame. Therefore, sometimes we need to sort of jiggle the bolt and the door alignment to get the deadbolt to lock from the inside, but the workman (and Matt) did take a look at it, and drilled out a larger hole for the bolt to try to accommodate the problem, which helped. The footbolt installation seems to have gone very well - it works smoothly for us every time. The last door turned out to be placed in such a way that a bolt would be hard to install, so Matt picked up a burglar bar door stop (under the knob, braced on the floor) for us to put in place when we wanted to secure that door more firmly. Since it's a garage entry that we use rarely, this solution was fine (and cheap).
We really enjoyed interacting with Matt, and respected his input, and look forward to using his company again, hopefully in the late winter months when they might have more availability for larger projects.

It did not go well at first, they were late coming and did not call. They did not send the person that was assigned and they sent two different ones on the second day. Not sure if will use again or not.
Response from You've Got A Guy Inc
"We were twenty minutes late on day one and the customer was called before eight to let her know that was the situation. On day two, the customer had us change our schedule around to suit her and we did, even though we were scheduled to show at eight. We did excellent work, as usual."

Job finished in less that three weeks. Workers were there when i was not home, they are trustworthy. There were a few small details at the end of the job (such as caulking joints) that were taken care of to my satisfaction.  Matt, the owner, and his head carpenter Mike, were great to work with. Matt responded right away when i called him about the missing celing light cover, and it was replaced within the week. This was even after I had made the final payment! A great value for the money...highly recommended.

"It's always great to get an A grade a couple of months after the job was finished. That just means that we left a nice impression. We also love in and out bathroom jobs. Thank you for the kind words."

The company was referred to me by my co-worker. I called them to get an estimate on replacing weak floor boards from water leaking inside my bedroom from a window air conditioner. I spoke to Donna to set up an appointment with the owner, Matthew, to stop by and assess the work. We set up a time convenient for both of us.  The morning he was supposed to come, he was in a car accident. He was courteous to contact my job since he did not have my home number with him. My office forwarded me his message in an email since I was working from home. I called him later in the day to see how he was feeling. Matthew was very professional and apologized for missing our appointment. We set up another time. He came out and assessed the job and gave me a price. He did inform me that if floor joints had to be replaced the price would increase.  We set up a date for the work and his staff arrived on time.  After tearing up the old floor boards, he showed me the damage and asked if I wanted to replace the floor joints. He assessed what materials would be needed. He called Matthew to tell him the extent of the damage. Matthew called me about the adjusted price in which I agreed. During the repair, his staff showed me the new floor joints and insulation he replaced before he cover them with the new floor boards.  He also cleaned up.  I am very happy with the work and that my floor is leveled again.

We got off to a bit of a rocky start on the paint job, when the painter didn't show up as scheduled.  However, Matt was very apologetic and professional and made sure the work was completed on time.  They did an excellent job on our cabinets and backsplash - it looks like a brand new kitchen.
The drywall repair and door installation went very smoothly, with no issues whatsoever.  John, the gentleman who did the work, was extremely polite and friendly.  Further, he went out of his way to make sure the job looked great, even though the jobs were in an area no one would ever really see.  He was also very thankful to have the work, which is always nice to hear.
Overall, You've Got a Guy did a very nice job on a number of disparate projects - all within our time frame and budget.  Thanks, Matt!

**UPDATE 2/6/2013**
I believe this company is now out of business, so I don't know what good this will do unless Matt Baffoe decides to start something new....

It turns out that the painter did not use the proper primer on our cabinets which made the dark paint chip and scratch away very easily (even a stray fingernail would do it).  I called him out to take a look at it and he agreed that the job would need to be redone, but that he needed a little time to schedule it.  No problem...

Well, after two months of not returning emails and messages, in January 2013, I get an email that he's been going through some health and money issues but that he'd be back up and running in a week.  Then nothing again until yesterday, when I receive an email that his company has been dissolved.  So, we're out of luck it appears.  Avoid this piece of garbage at all costs.
Response from You've Got A Guy Inc
"Unfortunately, one of our painters lost his uncle suddenly and couldn't do the job. This had us scrambling because we have a heavy workload. In the end, we got the job done and the customer is happy. These folks were a pleasure to work for and we are proud that we could make their kitchen look brand new with a little bit of paint and tile."

The day of the job the two young men who came were punctual and did all work as described - moving the heavy furniture out of the way, removing the carpet, padding, strips, tacks and nails, and disposing of all neatly in the dumpster behind my building. They scrapped and swept the floor to get up the places the padding had adhered to the tile. They also showed professionalism by showing me as soon as they noticed that there were places the tile would crack or chip as they were pulling up the strips, and also by effectively working around some plumbers (and their equipment) who were also doing some work in my unit that day. I was very impressed with their work and have recommended them to friends and family.

They did a good job. I ran into an issue where they were supposed to be finished and out on Saturday but they weren't. No one showed up on Saturday but they came on Sunday and put everything back and finished the job and everything looked good. It seemed there was some miscommunication on their part.
Response from You've Got A Guy Inc
"One of our employees didn't realize he had something scheduled with his child for that Saturday morning, and we were completely booked. We just couldn't find someone to take his place. It's a shame that this happened. I am a little confused at the Angie's List report card. Out of five categories we received A's, yet our total report is a B. That doesn't seem right. This customer was a pleasure to work for. Hopefully we will see her again."

Overall, we had no complaints. It did take longer than we anticipated, but only because it was supposed to be a two man job, and one employee called off for the day. But by 6pm, the job was done and we are no longer hauling all of our clothes down the street to the local laundromat. We will definitely be using You've Got A Guy, Inc. again in the future.

I called three companies from Angie's List to give me an estimate on deck repair.  The first said he could offer several options but only gave one - complete replacement for several thousand dollars; the second obviously didn't want the job because he gave a high estimate for not much work.  The third was Matt from You've Got a Guy.  He listened to what I wanted done, carefully examined the deck, and then gave me a recommendation and an estimate.  The work he suggested was a bit more than I had expected and the price was in line with what I figured I could spend.  Matt thoroughly explained what he was recommending and why.  On the day of the work, both Matt and Mike came, Matt to explain what was to be done and Mike to do the work.  Both men are very friendly and professional.  The work was completed in one day, though Mike came back the following day to do some touch-ups.  He even helped me put up my deck umbrella!  I would not hesitate to recommend this company, and in fact I already have.  I would also call them again for any other work I need done.
Response from You've Got A Guy Inc
"The key factor here was that we listened to the customer's wishes. She is aware that her deck is a little older and will eventually need to be replaced. We were able to give her a few more years before that happens. I will be glad to work for this person again."

Awesome job!!!  The estimate was very reasonable and Matt was very clear about everything involved.  From the very start, Matt was totally on top of things and very responsive.  He and every member of his crew was so great!  They were all so nice, professional, punctual and cleaned everything up so well.  Some of the best I've ever dealt with.  Everyone was a pleasure to work with and, the job they did was fantastic!!  We are so happy with the end product! We will definitely have them back to do more work for us.

Matt came by and looked at our job, which was a relatively small job. We had just had four basement windows replaced and we needed interior trim installed and finished on them. After getting and accepting the quote Matt was able to have someone start within a day or so. Matt came by with Mike on the morning they started the job. It took Mike about a day to finish the job. We're happy with the results and will likely contact Matt in the future when we have projects.

I emailed the owner Mr. Baffoe regarding my request, and within two hours he returned my call.  He quoted me a price of $250, which I felt was great since they would also supply the truck/van to do the moving and we would not be required to rent one.  He said his men would be at the property between 8-9am.  At 0745 Mike, one of the movers, was already calling me to tell me they were there and ready to start whenever we were! I was thrilled with this punctuality, because there have been many times that I have hired someone, only to have them "flake" or keep me waiting.  Mike and Jim got right to work and took care of my daughter's furniture and the entire move just the way we had hoped: cheerfully, courteously, and most importantly professionally.  They set up the bed, and arranged the furniture for us.  Considering they had to "walk" the sofa and the queen size mattress and box spring down three flights of stairs, I would say what we paid was money well spent.  A couple of hours after the job was completed, Mr. Baffoe called us to make sure we were happy with the service.  This impressed me as well.  I will definitely use "You've Got A Guy" for future jobs at my home, and will be sure to recommend them to my friends.
Response from You've Got A Guy Inc
"I know what your thinking - These guys move furniture too? Actually, we get people who ask us to make small moves for them all the time, and we will gladly do it. Hopefully you're as nice as the two ladies who asked us to move these items. They were a joy to work for. They really pushed the meaning of "Yeah, we do that.""

Matt and his Crew are FANTASTIC!!
I met Matt via Angie's list about 1 year ago and he's done SEVERAL projects at our home since.
I enjoy working with Matt and ALL of his team, because I know a good job is going to be done.
As I mentioned we've had several jobs done and we've met several of Matt's Crew and the only word that comes to mind to describe them is 'Professionals' -they take pride in what they do and it shows.
I'm sure we'll be doing business again at some point.  I've recommended Matt to my family and friends! and I they too are going to use him. They really stand firm on their motto..."yeah we do that".  And I believe Donna, his assistant, works around the clock - whenever you text or call her you are guaranteed to get a response.

THANK YOU!!

The look of the grout around the bathtub is horrible. They said the grout line was too wide, but the first guy they sent said they could put a webbing behind it and then apply the grout. Because they didn't put the webbing behind, the grout kept falling behind the wall. They started the second job with the other shower. This was a very small job, where a small amount of grout would need to be taken up and just a bit put in its place. He took up too much of the old grout and resealed the grout with small rocks and old silicone popping up. I brought how horrible it looked to him and he said he didn't want to scratch the marble. He said he would do it again, he came back and tried it again. After he left the second time, he left several holes in the grout in wall of the shower and did not complete the work on the floor. It still looks horrible and we have not been able to use the shower in a month. My husband called one of the owners, Matthew Baffoe, and he said he would come back out himself and fix the problem. He was the one that originally came to provide the estimate and, at that time, said he didn't know anything about grouting. We would ask him questions and he said they had a "grout guy" and he would have to check with him. But he then told my husband that he would come out to redo the job. My husband then e-mailed Matthew pictures of the work and we didn't hear back from him. This was a very simple job, I was even able to get the old caulking off the marble without scratching it. I will not let them come back because they did such a horrible job. Please don't hire these guys.
Response from You've Got A Guy Inc
"We performed several tasks for this person and one of them turned out poorly. I could point out that the customer scrubbed the original grout work that we did with a cleaning agent the night we put it in, or that she has had several people in to do work for her and has complained about all of them, but where will that get us? In the end you just cant please some people."

Matt came to look the work over and then sent me an estimate, which I accepted -- they've been good to me in the past.  The guys showed up on time, as always.  Talked with me in detail about what I needed and what constraints they were under (for example: they were concerned that when they spray painted my fence, my neighbor's plants might get sprayed -- we dealt with that, no problem).  They were, again as always, very considerate with their timing, since I run a daycare in my home and sometimes the kids have to nap.  Work was done efficiently and effectively.  Super friendly workers -- you couldn't ask for nicer guys!

They replaced the gasket and tile on August 15th. The ceramic tile is already starting to come loose and the toilet is leaking again. I called and left a voice mail and told them they did a lousy job and don't want them back to try fix.

"This customer left a message on Sept 1 that he was having problems with the work we did. We contacted him that day to let him know that his work was under warranty and that we would gladly come out to fix any problems he had. He stated that he didn't want us to come out. Originally, He was informed that fixing the wax ring on the toilet might not fix his problem. We reset his toilet and fixed his tile floor for two hundred dollars. I'm not sure why he has given us an F on price. I can understand him being upset that the wax ring didn't fix his problem, but we should at least be allowed to come and honor our warranty."
