"I used ARC Insulation to seal holes in my HVAC ductwork, as recommended by an energy audit I had done on my home. I am thrilled with the work Joe, Felipe and Danny did at my house. Joe explained the entire process to me, while the crew blocked off all the vents, tested my system (I had 40% leakage) and then applied the Aeroseal to my ductwork. The sealing brought that figure down to just 3% and that was before Danny caulked the gaps between the vents and the drywall before replacing the grilles. (I can actually hear a difference in the airflow when the heat comes on.) All three guys were professional, knowledgeable, kind, and meticulous in their prep and cleanup. David Puralewski was my contact at ARC and was very responsive to all my questions. I highly recommend ARC Insulation for projects at your home."

"My attic was poorly ventilated — damp, musty, and overdue for attention. After deciding to bring in a professional, Randy came out to my home, thoroughly assessed the problem areas, and put together a detailed quote on the spot. The scope of work included removal of the existing insulation, air sealing around all attic entry points, sanitizing, air baffle installation, and installation of new Weather Blanket cellulose insulation. The new cellulose achieves an R-value that meets or exceeds Illinois code requirements. I couldn't be happier with the results. I've already noticed a meaningful improvement in temperature consistency and overall comfort throughout my home. If you're looking for a trustworthy, professional insulation contractor, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Paragon Insulation & Services."

"Daniel and his brother are very professional, know what they are doing and are great problem solvers and equally as important, really care about the work they are doing. They found that a bathroom vent was not installed properly and ended up going to Home Depot twice to hookup the vent properly. They did the right thing and got it done right. I will be working with Daniel and Mendieta Insulation again and I will refer them to family and friends."

"It went really well. Robert Carroll really knows his stuff. Hire this guy. I say that without reservation of any kind. Don't look any further, believe me, I did. This is the smartest guy. He is honest, dependable, offers fair pricing, and his team can do all the work. I got several estimates from A+ rated insulation companies, but Robert was more knowledgeable than the other companies. He was the only one to point out that my soffits were not vented. Apparently, my house was built on the day no one was inspecting. The builder never cut open the soffits. That meant there was zero airflow going through my attic. The attic fan could run all day, but without air to move, it would not do any good. Only Robert noticed this and offered a solution to fix the problem! I asked some of the other A+ companies if they would vent the soffits and they all said they don't do that work, but they would be happy to add more insulation, which would not fix the problem if the attic was not vented."

"I am very happy with the work done by Green Attic Insulation. David and Charlie were very friendly, professional, responsive, and flexible in working with my changing needs. I originally was looking into insulation but then discovered there was mold in my attic. As the job grew, David, Charlie, and their team worked with me to address the additional parts of the job. I really appreciate their knowledge and the thorough job they did. They took many pictures of their progress and kept me informed each step of the way. Thank you very much!"

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Whether you need a drywall anchor depends on the specifics of your project, particularly what you're hanging and where. You do not need a drywall anchor if you can screw or nail the object directly into a wooden stud, as the wood provides sufficient support and stability. However, if there are no studs in the location where you plan to hang the item, you should use drywall anchors to ensure it is securely supported. For very lightweight objects, like small pictures, adhesive picture hanging strips can be a suitable alternative to anchors.

Yes, even if you’re being careful, removing tile can damage your drywall to some degree. However, you can minimize the damage done to it by eliminating a majority of the grout and taking your time prying each tile off. Also, it's worth noting that you might have more drywall damages to deal with if your tile is set into the mortar.

There is no way to cut drywall without making dust, but you can reduce the amount of dust and especially the dangerous airborne particles by using manual cutting tools. Using a utility knife to score and snap your drywall will minimize dust production, and a jab saw for cutting cutouts for boxes and fixtures will generate almost no airborne dust. Even if you use these methods, you should still wear a respirator and safety goggles to avoid damage to your lungs and eyes.

When you are learning how to tape and mud drywall, waiting for things to dry requires a lot of patience. So how long does drywall mud take to dry? On average, it takes about 24 hours. However, it depends on things like the thickness of the mud, as well as the room’s temperature, humidity, and ventilation. Using thin layers of mud in a warm, low-humidity room with good airflow reduces average drying time. You also could speed up drying time by making use of hot drywall mud, which consists of a powder that you mix with water, instead of using pre-mixed mud.

Textured walls are a great way to hide imperfections left over by drywall installation, but many homeowners feel like it’s an outdated look, despite there being so many types of drywall texture. And while the textured walls of today are a far cry from the popcorn ceilings and faux stucco of our grandmother’s homes, if you want a more modern look or you want to install wallpaper, it’s time to smooth out your walls.
