"I needed the skirting to be reattached to my mobile home. Handy Abe told me to find all piece that had gotten ripped off by the wind and save them. I went outside and figured out how to reattach them and was able to complete the project with my son. It would have been a little costly had I not found all the pieces. Handy Abe kept in touch with me to make sure everything was okay. I really appreciate that. If I need any other work I definitely will keep him in mind."

Small jobs welcome

Hi! My name is Daniel and I have been working and getting my hands dirty since a teenager. I use to work in remodeling residential houses, but now I'm a supervisor in the Ink industry. I've always been good with figuring out how to fix things from household appliances, to holes in walls, or having to regrout bathroom tiles due to mold. I've put in hard wood flooring, vinyl flooring, drywall, trim and crown molding, as well as paint. I'm willing to go about 25-30 miles from my home to work for some extra income. And if you do follow through with hiring me, I can assure you, whatever you need done will get done in a timely and efficient manner with care and attention to detail. So please reach out with any questions and I'm more than willing to be at your service.

Drywall questions, answered by experts

If you already have plaster walls and ceilings, adding new plaster costs $2 to $10 per square foot. For an average-sized room, that would come out to $1,200 to $10,000. However, the cost to replace plaster with drywall is higher—running between $720 and $1,250 for a 10-by-8-foot wall or ceiling (not including drywall finishing).

A common cause of separation between a wall and the ceiling is truss lift—this can happen to the ceiling of rooms directly under the attic when the seasons change and wood building materials dry out, shrink, and shift. Roof trusses often dry out at different speeds, and if the bottom pieces dry out faster than the top pieces, they can shrink and pull the attached drywall away from ceilings and walls, causing cracks. Fortunately, truss lift is only a cosmetic problem, not a structural problem, and you can fix it by separating the ceiling drywall from the roof trusses, and patching the cracks.

It is more difficult to drywall a ceiling than it is to drywall a wall, but not so hard that DIYers can’t tackle it. One of the main issues with hanging drywall on your ceiling is getting it into place. Drywall isn’t light so, if you are hanging full drywall panels, you will need at least two (it’s better with more) people to hold the panel while you drill it into the ceiling as a single piece can weigh between 40 and 60 pounds and will need to be held in place for up to 10 minutes.

Yes, drywall nail pops are a common occurrence in homes, both new and old, resulting from the settling and shifting of the structure over time. Though not present in every room or on every wall, encountering nail pops in different sections of a home is not unusual, particularly if the temperature, humidity, or foundation has experienced changes.

A 50-pound mirror can be hung on drywall, but only if it has the support of strong hardware. Ideally, you can find the studs behind the drywall and attach the mirror to them; this will give your mirror better stability. Otherwise, confirm that you are using anchors appropriate to the weight of the mirrors. Another technique is to use French cleats—two pieces of wood that fit together, with one piece attached to the wall and the other to the mirror. This allows the weight to be distributed over a wider area.
