"I needed the skirting to be reattached to my mobile home. Handy Abe told me to find all piece that had gotten ripped off by the wind and save them. I went outside and figured out how to reattach them and was able to complete the project with my son. It would have been a little costly had I not found all the pieces. Handy Abe kept in touch with me to make sure everything was okay. I really appreciate that. If I need any other work I definitely will keep him in mind."

Small jobs welcome

Hi! My name is Daniel and I have been working and getting my hands dirty since a teenager. I use to work in remodeling residential houses, but now I'm a supervisor in the Ink industry. I've always been good with figuring out how to fix things from household appliances, to holes in walls, or having to regrout bathroom tiles due to mold. I've put in hard wood flooring, vinyl flooring, drywall, trim and crown molding, as well as paint. I'm willing to go about 25-30 miles from my home to work for some extra income. And if you do follow through with hiring me, I can assure you, whatever you need done will get done in a timely and efficient manner with care and attention to detail. So please reach out with any questions and I'm more than willing to be at your service.

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You’ll get better results if you soundproof the whole wall. A hole through which light can pass can also let sound waves in. Acoustical or silicone sealant applied to holes and cracks can block enough sound to make a difference. However, the more layers absorb vibrations and slow or stop sound waves, the less noise you’ll have.

Yes, if there is mold in your drywall mud and you then use it to build walls in your house—or if mold develops in your set drywall, like it can in hot and humid areas—it can lead to illness. Mold in your drywall (or other parts of your home) can make existing respiratory conditions or allergies worse, and the effect can be more intense for those who have existing health issues or compromised immune systems.

Whether a drywall anchor can be reused depends on its material, type, and the method of removal. Plastic anchors, including expansion and self-drilling types, are generally designed for single use as they tend to break or deform upon removal. Metal anchors, such as toggle bolts, are more durable and may be reusable if they are not damaged during extraction. However, with toggle bolts, the toggle piece can fall into the wall cavity when the bolt is removed, making it difficult to retrieve. If an anchor is damaged during removal, for instance by having its head cut off, it cannot be reused regardless of the material.

If your home was built before the 1940s and was not remodeled in the past 50 or so years, you probably have plaster walls. Aside from assuming, there are some practical ways to tell if you have plaster walls, including the following: If you knock on the wall and it feels solid, not hollow, if you can’t insert a thumbtack easily, if there are cracks that look like spiderwebs, or if your home has curved, arched, or swirled walls, doorways, or window openings.

If you have an unfinished basement or attic, you could examine the backs of any finished walls to check, too.

A post-drywall inspection could uncover many problems that weren’t present during the pre-drywall inspection, including insufficient insulation, missing weather stripping, improperly installed plumbing and lighting fixtures, flooring damage, drywall damage, plumbing leaks, aesthetic issues, and more. Structural problems, which are often expensive to fix and are common reasons to walk away after a home inspection, are easier to see before the drywall goes up, but a post-drywall inspection may highlight minor issues with house settling and foundation problems.
