"A small testing device was set up in our basement and was left in place three days. The device was then picked up and we received a phone call a day later informing us of the radon level detected. This was followed up by a professionally prepared report mailed to us detailing the results and how to interpret them."

"Chuck and his team have been outstanding to work with. Mike was at our home to re-work the radon mitigation position in our basement due to a construction project we are moving forward with. Mike was able to come up with a creative solution and we are happy with the quality of his work."

"Barry Schilling came out and quickly assessed the leak we had during the rain storm on 4/18/13.  He listened to the observations and conclusions of other contractors and tested their accuracy against his initial conclusion to let us come to our own conclusion.  He was patient and thoroughly answered every question we had, no matter how minor or significant.  He was at our property twice before we decided to choose U.S. Waterproofing.  The job was scheduled and the team of two men arrived on time.  Barry was there to walk them through the job first thing in the morning.  Except for the custom window well coverings, the job was completed on the same day and they were careful to clean up after themselves.  They had a lot of digging to do, and the fact that the temperature was in the 90's did not seem to slow the process.  The covers were done separately and were installed by the end of the week.  Shortly after the job was completed, we had another strong rain and saw water in the basement in a different place.  Barry came out and helped us to identify the nature of the leak which was completely unrelated to the leak that they fixed and had to do with some poorly designed enhancement to the foundation done by the previous owner of the home.
Barry was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and willing to make suggestions about how to address a variety of problems we had identified with our home.  He let us know exactly what to expect all along the way.  He was very pleasant and professional throughout the progress.  I would not hesitate to work with him and the company again and would to recommend them to anyone who had basement leakage.

"As a first time home buyer, Tim made sure I understood the entire process of mold/air & radon testing and what the results meant. He also gave me great insight on the house as a whole and what to look for while inspecting. He has your best interest in mind during your home buying experience which alleviates some of the stressors that you d otherwise be facing."

"I rarely post reviews. Sidad came out a day after I called about our 9.5 radon level to inspect and tell us about the installation route of his mitigation system in our basement. He returned the next morning, installed the system & our 3rd party test report came back at 0.3 which she said was super low. I can not say enough about Clue Radon and his excellent job! And on top of that he is honest and very kind! BTW I first called 3 well known Radon Companies in Lake and Dupage County and they all said I'd be looking at a 2-3 week wait because they are that busy. Call Clue Radon:)"

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

No level of radon is technically safe, but since it is present everywhere, complete avoidance is impossible. The average radon level in homes across the United States is 1.3 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends taking preventative measures if your home's radon levels are between 2 and 4 pCi/L or higher.

The cost for a radon mitigation system typically ranges from $800 to $1,500, with an average around $1,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of your home, the severity of the radon issue, and the type of system required. Your home's foundation type also significantly impacts the cost. For example, sealing and ventilating an unfinished basement might cost around $4,600, while encapsulating a crawl space without a foundation slab can range from $1,500 to $15,000.

Use a radon test kit or hire professionals to conduct a detailed assessment of radon levels in your home.

Ideally, no one will live in a house with elevated radon levels, as prolonged exposure increases the risk of serious health issues like lung cancer. However, homes with radon can be made safe through mitigation systems, such as active soil depressurization. Testing for radon regularly and addressing high levels helps ensure a safe living environment.

The soil beneath your house is most likely what’s causing an increased level of radon. This is because soil holds radioactivity for a long time and it’s also what most buildings are built on. Another common source of radon is water from a source that hasn’t been through periodic radon tests, such as well water. Over time, the radon from the soil can inhabit other parts of your house like the foundation or plumbing.
