"I thought that the water heater (boiler) had a failed thermostat, The tech immediately recognized that the water temp was not set high enough. He verified that all the valves were working correctly and that the water came up to temp. He taught me more about the system in 30 minutes than I was told when it was put it 15 years ago. Very professional service call."

"You have to know going into this that their first price is not their final price. At the end we were saying could've we gotten a better price. If that type of negotiation bothers you don't call this company. What they sell is top notch, we are very happy with the water quality now."

"Greg, the owner, came out on two occasions to discuss the crawl space and drain tile. He is extremely knowledgeable and experienced in the crawl space industry. We had a few options and he told me about the new spray product he was using. It is this unique seamless liner that is sprayed on after preparing and insulating the area.
His crew was very professional and easy to talk to. We had some scheduling conflicts that were easy to work around and get the job done when we needed it to be finished.
The difference we noticed in the smell in our basement, the effect the insulation and seamless lining had on the air conditioning in our family room (which is above the crawl space) was immediate. We feel cooler air coming through the duct work since it isn't losing energy traveling through a non insulated space anymore and they basement smells and feels normal since the dirt and concrete is now completely covered by the new liner.
That new product is great.
Greg's company also did drain tile work in our basement. It was a different crew than the group who did the crawl space, but they were equally as professional and easy to work with. Rather than break up the job into 3-4 days they stayed late the first day to get everything ready and prepared so they could complete the job quicker. The job was done the next day. The price was very fair and the crew was extremely clean throughout thew whole process.
We now have a water tight, well insulated basement and we couldn't be happier with the results.
I have told several friends about the experience and would recommend them anytime. From Greg down to each of his crew members they really know how to do a good job and work with the customer."

"This company is excellent. They saved me thousands of dollars on basement waterproofing. I assumed I needed drain tile and a sump pump installed since my basement flooded twice in the past few years. I got estimates for the job from several companies. Rather than trying to find the source of where the water was coming into my basement, the other companies just wanted to install the drain tile. High Tech Waterproofing's goal was to keep the water away from the house and discover the source . It turned out I had a huge crack in my basement wall. They fixed it at a minimal cost. They not only saved me money, but they saved me from the hassle of having my basement torn apart & the mess that comes with it. I couldn't be happier.
The employees were prompt, courteous and professional. They explained everything to me and never pressured me like the other companies did. I highly recommend this company and would not hesitate to recommend them to friends and family."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

If your water softener repair is fairly straightforward, like a simple filter replacement, then you can probably do it yourself with little risk. However, anything beyond a simple fix should be addressed by someone with extensive plumbing expertise to avoid costly water softener problems, like leaks.

That said, even simple problems can be complicated to diagnose, particularly if your water softener is attached to a whole-house treatment system. So, unless you feel absolutely certain that the problem is an easy fix that you can take on yourself, it's probably best to hire a plumber to diagnose and fix the problem.

The average cost to install a water softener, including the system and labor, is approximately $1,500. However, the total price can range widely from $600 to $6,000. For some complete systems, the cost may be between $800 and $2,500. Labor for the installation typically costs between $150 and $1,000.

The final price is influenced by several factors, including:

  • System type, capacity, and complexity

  • Home size and household water demands

  • Water hardness levels

  • Accessibility of the installation site and the extent of plumbing work required

  • Whether new electrical work is needed

  • The professional hired and any local permit costs

Hard water is not considered unhealthy and is safe to drink, cook with, and bathe in. It doesn't pose a risk to your physical health and can even help you get enough essential minerals like calcium in your diet. However, it can negatively affect skin and hair. Using hard water for washing can contribute to dry skin, an itchy scalp, and may worsen conditions like eczema by altering the pH balance. Additionally, some people do not like the taste of hard water.

A water softener is a worthwhile investment if you live in an area with hard water. While hard water is safe to drink, it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium that can cause significant problems over time. These minerals build up inside pipes, reducing water flow and eventually corroding the plumbing system, which can lead to leaks and a shortened lifespan. Hard water also damages fixtures and appliances, potentially resulting in costly repairs. Additionally, it makes soaps and detergents less effective, meaning you'll use more product to get things clean. By installing a water softener, you can prevent these issues. The initial investment is often recouped through long-term savings, including lower energy bills, reduced appliance and plumbing maintenance, and spending less on soap and cleaning supplies. Other benefits include cleaner linens, dishes, and clothing, as well as softer water that is gentler on your skin and hair. In some areas, a water softener can also increase your home's value, making it a valuable long-term investment.

It’s not a good idea to oversize your water softener. Doing so will mean the tank doesn’t get full, which can lead to channeling. This leads to a large portion of the resin beads not being utilized and the beads at the bottom of the tank being overused. Over time, this will reduce the efficiency of your system, not to mention that the upfront cost of an oversized softener is unnecessarily high. If you have a timed regeneration cycle rather than a demand-based one, you’ll also spend far more on replacing salt than you need to.
