My biggest fear was there was a crack in my drain pipe and I was bracing myself for thousands of dollars worth of repairs that I really couldn't afford. They sent Kevin out who got to work right away to confirm that the smell was coming from the toilet. He checked all areas of plumbing in the bathroom to make sure he was diagnosing the issue correctly. The toilet was wobbly and he suspected it was an issue with the seal, but wanted to be absolute certain before taking out the toilet. Essentially, he didn't want me to have to pay for something if I didn't have to. After Kevin confirmed that the seal was the problem, he gave me an estimate before removing the toilet. Not only was the wax ring worn down, but the flange wasn't installed correctly, and sewer gas was seeping from the drain pipe. Luckily, there was no water damage. He did have to install a new flange and tried two different types before he was confident that he had the right fit. He then put in a new wax ring, tightened everything so the toilet would stop wobbling, and caulked the base. I am so impressed with Cregger's workmanship, professionalism, and honesty. Kevin kept me informed the whole time, showed me where the issues were, talked to me like an equal (and not condescendingly as is the case with other contractors I've hired), and made sure I was okay with the price before proceeding with the work. He spent well over two hours making sure the job was done right and every detail was covered. Nobody likes to have plumbing issues of any kind, but if I ever need any work done in the future, I will call Cregger first! I was very pleased with the work done by Tom Smith Plumbing. I noticed that there was a leaking pipe in my basement bathroom just after a large snow storm. The weather was terrible and way below freezing. Pretty much every plumbing service was booked solid. I had called 4 different plumbers. The person that I spoke with on the phone was polite and helpful as well as straight forward which I appreciate. Tom Smith was the one service that told me they might be able to make it the same day. Just as I had finished calling the last plumber, I received a call from Tom Smith stating that they were on there way. I was super surprised as it had only been about an hour since I had called them. They had said it would be the afternoon before I heard from them when really it wasn't even noon yet. So already I was really happy. Then Joel came in and took a look at every sink and toilet before just assuming it was the pipe I was concerned about and not a greater problem. After assessing the situation, Joel explained he would have to cut a hole in my ceiling to get to the leak. He had the pipe fixed in about 30 minutes. He cleaned up as best as he could given that I didn't have a garbage can in the area. Aside from the work that he was there to do, Joel was very personable and kind to both my 3 year old and my dog. I was impressed with the promptness, professionalism, thoroughness and kindness of Joel and Tom Smith Plumbing.
On a side note, I was equally impressed when I had called a smaller plumbing group and when they were too busy to accommodate I was referred to Tom Smith. To me that speaks volumes when another professional in the same field recommends another.
Very professional. Kern plumbing was the second one I called. The first guy said he would need to go through my drywall to change out my bathroom faucet. Nate (Kern plumbing) was able to do it w/o going through my drywall! He also looked a my kitchen faucet and advise me to call Delta and...

Quick work and fair price. We called them for a job since then and had to leave a phone message. When they didn't call right back, we selected another plumber. The may have since gotten someone to answer the phone which would have kept us as customers.

I have been involved in trades since the early 1990's. I returned to college, at the age of 32, to earn a degree in trade sciences and received a B.S. in 2005. I am a Jack of all trades so to speak. if I look at a project and don't feel comfortable that I can do a professional job, I will gladly recommend someone that is qualified for free.

FAQs for affordable plumbing projects in Bartonville, IL
Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
It’s possible to snake minor drain clogs yourself, provided they sit within a foot or two of the drain itself, but it’s usually best to hire a professional plumber regardless. Even experienced DIYers have a high chance of accidentally pushing the clog further into the drain using a drain snake or another tool, so hiring a plumber is the ideal course of action. A professional plumber can use camera equipment to locate and identify the clog, and remove the entire blockage to fix your issue permanently.
Typically, plumbing repairs cost about $325 per job but can range from $175 to $4,000 or more. Simple fixes, such as a toilet repair, will be less expensive at around $150 to $400. However, if you have a pipe that has burst, you can expect to pay between $1,000 and $4,000 or more.
The project that needs to be completed, the size of your home, and the type of plumbing pipes you have can all impact the final cost. External factors such as supply chain issues and shortage of materials all play a part in how much this repair might be.
The average cost to unclog a drain is around $200, with prices ranging between $110 and $800, depending on the type of drain and the extent of the clog. Hiring a professional to snake the toilet or sink will usually cost between $110 and $275, a bathtub or shower typically costs around $225, and a main line clog can cost between $100 and $800 based on the severity of the clog and how far beyond the access point the clog sits. Since the labor involved varies, most plumbers will charge an hourly rate for drain cleaning.
The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350.
