"Dave and his crew did an awesome job building some wainscoting and trim over my fireplace. He designed it so it complemented and carried through the shape of the built in shelving on either side. It was all his design. It turned out better than I ever could have hoped for. Highly recommend."

"I have worked with JD Woodworking for 13 years. They have I fort hired them to install cabinets. I was so impressed with their work and professionalism that I hired them in my next house for a custom office, home theatre and bar. Each of these projects were custom built from the cabinets to the coffered ceilings. I have recommended them to several friends and I would recommend them again without hesitation."

"From start to finish this project went well. Rich was an amazing designer, listened to all my needs and gave such helpful suggestions. He was very concern from the start that I be satisfied with the project outcome. There was very little wait time and the installer Dan as a great guy and did a wonderful job. I did call other places before settling with this company. I found the other companies unprofessional and not responsive to my emails. Go with this company, you will be pleased."

"We are highly satisfied with the work we had completed. Insulation, drywall, framing repair, beam and post work, and painting. The basement looks great and we would definitely use them again in the future. Communication is great, pricing is fair, and there is a lot of care put into the work that they do."

"Andrew did a great job on our painting project. He was knowledgeable, courteous, respectful of our property. He moved the furniture around and made sure the furniture and flooring was also covered up. He put the furniture back like we had it and he cleaned up after he was completed. Thank you Andrew for a great job."

"Michael is very professional in all phases of his work.  He was always responsive and punctual.  His estimates were clear and well written - easy to follow.  Changes in scope of work were accommodated and priced fairly.  The quality of his woodworking was very good and his painting was excellent.  He was neat and cleaned up each day. The price for his work was in the middle of the estimates we received.  We have already recommended him to a neighbor looking for some work to be done."

Customers say: True professional

"Shane is extremely professional, very knowledgable, and does very precise in his work. We had to have new trim put in after having hardwoods redone and he did an amazing job. We were missing a special trim for around the kitchen and he came back when we were ready. He is very attentive to his work and ensures quality outcome. I will definitely call Shane again for any of our woodworking needs and refer him to friends and family. Thank you Shane!!!"

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Before hiring a carpenter, the most important thing is to make sure they are properly qualified and insured for the job. It’s more than reasonable to ask your prospective carpenter for customer references, as well as about their licensing and insurance. You should also consider choosing a carpenter that specializes in your specific project area to ensure high-quality results.

Tipping contractors, builders, or general contractors is not customary or expected. Unlike many service professions where tipping is built into the payment structure, construction professionals typically charge a full rate for their services. However, you may choose to tip a worker for exceptional service, such as if they go above and beyond, stay late to meet a deadline, or work on a holiday weekend. Before offering a tip, it's a good idea to ask about the company's policy, as some prohibit their employees from accepting gratuities. If you want to show your appreciation for a job well done without giving a cash tip, consider writing a positive online review or offering to serve as a reference for potential new customers.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface materials can be cut with standard woodworking tools, such as a circular saw or a jigsaw. However, it is crucial to use the correct type of blade to avoid damaging the material.

For a circular saw, a tungsten carbide-tipped blade is required; a triple chip grind blade is highly recommended. For a jigsaw, you should use a fine-tooth down-cutting blade. Do not use blades designed for cutting wood, as they can cause microfractures that weaken the edges of the countertop. A diamond blade is also unnecessary, as those are designed for harder materials like natural stone, which Corian is not.

After cutting, the edge will be rough. It is essential to sand and smooth the cut edge to prevent microfractures, which can eventually compromise the integrity of the countertop.

Board and batten is a type of wainscotting that uses wider boards that are placed vertically, and it has a much more rustic aesthetic than wainscotting. Common wainscotting styles are raised-panel, flat-panel, and beadboard. Wainscotting is more intricate and will typically use more elegant, subtle trims compared to the more farmhouse-inspired boards of board and batten styles.
