I am a self employed cabinetmaker, and I work out of my home. I'm the only employee, except for help with installs. Been in business for 22 years, and have a nice referral "tree" growing.

I re-model kitchens, bars, bedroom furniture, book cases, computer desks, it won't last..., linen closets, make entertainment centers, mantles. I do not reface existing cabinets. I don't believe in going in that direction. It's like putting a band aid on a surgery incision

Russ does an excellent job, he has helped us with several projects in the past, my husband and I have been very happy with his work, he is very professional, very polite, he has excellent woodworking skills, we will continue to hire him.

I told them I wanted solid wood doors on the cabinet and they used laminate. I tried to work with him on the issue and he said he would replace the doors for $800. I told him okay but I'm not going to throw the doors away so could he put the laminate doors in the laundry room. He told me due to circumstances beyond his control, he would not be able to do anything. I was trying to work it out to where I would pay part of it just to get what I wanted, then he pulled this offer off the table. I think he was going to take the existing door and plop something on top of it to pass it off as a brand new door. That's why he was not going to install them. I am at a standstill and don't know what to do with either one of them. I have solid wood doors throughout my house and they tried to pass off the laminate. It wasn't obvious until the doors started to fade. I just don't know how you can charge $3,000 for cabinets and then put laminate on the front. He was referred to me by another contractor and I feel they were in on it together. He's claiming I never asked for solid doors even though the front cut out is solid wood, the insert is laminate. The price seemed fair. The actual shelving units are nice but he did not trim them out or put a finishing edge on and for the cost they should of.

"Unfortunately, any business owner fears this "type" of customer. This person recieved everything she asked for. She paid for the job when it was done, and had no problems, except she didn't like the adjustable shelf clips I used. 4 to 5 months later she didn't like the finish she paid for. Then it turned into the way the doors were made, which turned into accusations of me "laminating" the doors that she insisted were to be solid. If I was told to make that type of door, she would of got it. Some doors I can make at my shop, others like solid, would be ordered from my door company. I made her a simple shaker style door, made from a solid hardwood frame with a 1/2 inch thick hardwood plywood middle panel dadoed into the frame. A very common door that I've made for years. What happened is the stain was slightly darker on the panel, which could have been fixed with a "poly shade" of the stain color, to the slightly lighter part, to help it. Then I was accused of planning to laminate over these same doors, and telling her they were new doors, had we went that direction... I didn't feel I was in a position to help her situation, I was pretty certain it would spiral out of control. I tried to work with her, but felt it was not going to help the situation. Keep in mind, at the very beginning of the job when she was happy with the plan for starting, she was to write me a check for half down ( $1500.00 ) she wrote it for $15.00. When approached to get a check for the correct amount, no apology, and another check for $1485.00. I almost felt like it was my fault. As a business owner, all we have to go by is "red flags" that come from relating to people. The check situation was a huge red flag, combined with the rest, leaves us where we're at now. I have a lot of very satisfied customers, that of which tell me if I ever need a referral for inquiring customers, they would be happy to help. Let's not worry about this bad apple, let me help you in getting you what you need, when you need it and at a very reasonable price. If you refer to this comment, after I give you a quote, I'll knock off $100.00."
