"Everything went very well.  Job well done. Very detailed oriented. Very clean and  work done in a very timely manner.  I had estimates for a new furnace only and the cost was going to be around $4,500.00.  That did not include anything done on the air conditioner or new gas line.  I have not had any problems with my new system.  He installed another furnace for me at a rental property. And everything went very well and also saved me a lot of money."

"Kelly (and his wife) are both wonderful - I can't say enough good things about them!!!   I'd smelled gas in the upstairs, called the gas company, and they'd come out, identified a signficant leak in the basement, shut off my gas, and said I'd need to get a plumber out to repair it before the gas could be turned back on.  I didn't know anyone to call, so found Ameriplumb through Angie's List (I'd just joined).  When I called, the person answering the phone (I think it was Kelly's wife) was very kind and said  she'd get in touch with him immediately & explain the problem.  Kelly called shortly thereafter and set up a time to come out within an hour or so to look at the problem.  He had a very full day going on, but still managed to fit me in and solve my problem - I know he ended up working late into that night as a result - so I was very grateful for his help.   The multiple leaks were in a terribly inaccessible part of the basement , and the space he had to work in was very tight.  The job was complex, with multiple curved pipes leading to others, etc., but he tackled it and in a few hours he had an entire new section of piping installed & the leaks fixed!  Then when he turned the gas back on, I still smelled gas in the upstairs.  After trouble-shooting the problem, we discovered that turn-off knob to my gas fireplace was not really in the "off" position (the Ameren workman had turned it to what he thought was the "off" position, but it was really still on)!   So Kelly figured out how it worked (it wasn't obvious, with the markings hidden by a screen & hard to read), and made sure it was truly "off".   So the gas problem was finally solved.  Then before he left, he also helped me with a few other problems/questions I had in the basement (see above for description).   He also steered me away from several solutions which would have cost alot (& made him more money), and told me less costly ways to handle things, which I think is rare.  So, all-in-all, my experience with Kelly was excellent - I definitely will be calling him again with any plumbing, heating/air or gas line problems I have in the future, and I  highly recommend him to all of you "Angie's Listers".  He has alot of all-around experience, is highly competent, and really came through for me when I really needed it!

*** I have recently added the Nashville area to my service coverage. Since I can do most of my services remotely with you over the phone, I am hoping to eventually open up to larger markets and help people from having to take their computer in to get it fixed, if it has internet access, I can usually fix it over the Internet. Just trying to do more to help my Angies List customers!!******** I am a sole proprietor that works out of my home. I am my only employee, but I have over 20 years experience fixing computers, and providing superior customer service. I work on a flat rate service, and don't charge by the hour because I feel it's important to educate the customer on what the issue is/was, and how to avoid it in the future. I feel that local service companies (my competition) have been overcharging customers for years. I offer a first time customer discount of 10% but I will offer 15% off for first time customers referred by Angies List. I've lived in the Huntsville area most all my life, so I know the area very well. I will never use a subcontractor as I am very picky about making sure that if my name and company is associated with something, it will be the best experience my customer has ever had, and using sub contractors won't ensure that, so I prefer to do all the work myself. Lastly, I should point out that I am a former offensive lineman for the University of Southern Mississippi and was Brett Favre's center his freshman year at Southern. I went on to play for Tom Landry in his last year, but gave up pro football early on to pursue my passion of fixing computers. If I didn't have bills to pay, I would do this for free because I love it! If you have a computer problem, I promise you that you couldn't find a better technician that will care about you as a customer, and not about the bottom line. I am always available, but don't always answer my phone, but if you leave a message, I promise to back with you as soon as possible...and figure out how to get your issue resolved in a quick, efficient and economical manner. Thanks so much for reading my ad, and I look forward to working for you!

"My technician was very good but he was in a very big rush. He was originally very pleasant and performed well in not so nice conditions as my house air conditioner was not bringing cool air into the bathroom he was working in. It was uncomfortable in the bathroom so he might have wanted to escape the hot air. He did not screw the top of one of the fixtures well and I wanted the 2 fixtures to not be so tight when you turn them but he was in hurry so I said nothing. He took care of the problem like a Real Pro and I am thankful for him and Choice Home Warranty."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Keeping your air filter clean is crucial for your heat pump's efficiency. As a general rule, you should check your air filter every 1 to 3 months. However, the actual frequency might vary depending on factors like the type of filter, indoor air quality, and the amount of dust and debris in your area. If you notice the filter is visibly dirty or clogged, it's a clear sign it needs attention sooner. Regular filter maintenance ensures proper airflow and helps your heat pump perform optimally, keeping your indoor air fresh and comfortable.

Yes, scorpions can enter a home through AC vents, especially if the system is not well-sealed. As excellent climbers, they can scale a home's exterior and squeeze through gaps as small as 1/16 of an inch. Scorpions are often attracted to the moisture around air conditioning ducts or seek cooler areas during hot weather, using vents as a pathway inside. They may slip through small openings where the duct meets the vent cover and travel within walls before emerging. To prevent this, inspect your vents, seal any gaps, and consider installing fine mesh screens.

While you’ll pay more upfront for a brand-new HVAC unit, you can save money in the long run. Here’s how to save on your new HVAC system:

  • When purchasing a high-efficiency system, your energy bills will be lower in the future.

  • You may be eligible for special offers from your local energy company.

  • Depending on the system, you may be eligible for HVAC rebates and tax credits.

  • Choose to replace your air conditioning unit and furnace simultaneously to save on labor and installation costs.

You need to know the square footage of your home first. Multiply that number by 20, which will get you the BTUs (British Thermal Units) needed to cool your home efficiently. Homes up to 1,000 square feet usually need a 1.5-ton unit; homes 1,000 to 1,200 square feet usually need a 1.75-ton unit, and homes 1,200 to 1,400 square feet usually need a 1.9-ton unit. Talk to a local pro for more specific advice on your home.

On average, an AC unit lasts between 10 and 20 years. However, the specific lifespan depends on the type of unit, how often it's used, the local climate, and the quality of maintenance. Central AC units typically last 12 to 17 years, while window units have a shorter lifespan of 8 to 10 years. Portable AC units last about 5 to 10 years, and ductless mini-split systems can last up to 20 years. To extend the life of your AC unit, it's important to perform regular maintenance, such as replacing filters, cleaning coils, and scheduling annual professional tune-ups.
