"I am writing a follow up review, because I was really pleased with the plantation shutter that John customized for my oversized kitchen window, He made sure that I was completely satisfied with the shutters and made sure the design was exactly what I wanted. I know that I would not have been able to get this design from another place. It is so unique"

I am a jack of trades independent contractor/ handyman with 10+ years experience. I am not a licensed plumber, licensed electrician, or licensed roofer. With that said it's easier to just tell you the things that I don't do. I do not do drain work, I do not replace electrical lines or panel boxes, I do not replace plumbing lines which includes water and gas, and I do not replace roofs. Aside from that I can do everything else, and have the tools to do so.

"Dimitri did a very good job on our hallway. He managed to paint a very tight corner without getting any grey paint on our newly installed white trim. He has a very steady hand with the brush. The grey paint did bleed through the tape onto the baseboard trim in a couple locations but he made certain to repaint the trim and not just leave it up to us to fix. That was very professional of him.

"Sammi is very talented in helping me pick out exactly what I needed for my windows in my new home. The blinds were measured by Kyle and they were measured to a tee. All my blinds fit perfectly in all my windows. Kyle did an excellent job installing my blinds too. I would never use any other blind company. I highly recommend Kustom Kovers to anyone that needs new window treatments.!!!!"

"Mike was very responsive from the start.  I called him based on positive reviews from this site, and he got right back to me.  The house was a bit of a drive for him, but he promptly went out and did an estimate.  His price was very fair, and I decided to have him do the work.  He worked his schedule around to get to the project sooner, and was able to complete the job in a very timely manner.  The work was very professional, and the finished product looks great.  There was only one small hiccup - when he tore the old roof off, we discovered that there was a second layer of shingles under the top layer.  He had bid the job based on my say-so that there was only one old layer.  We were able to quickly come to an agreement, and he was very fair with his small price increase based on the unknown second layer.  Overall a very good experience.  I would hire him again for this or related type work.

Window Shutters questions, answered by experts

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.
