"Diaz Insulation was prompt thorough and informative they even showed me beforeand after pictures. Above that they were curtious and friendly but not invasive. Their price was extremely fair. I plan on having them do additional work in the spring. Two thumbs up!"

"Elite Insulation and Solar LLC was contracted to provide several services, including removal of the existing insulation from the attic of the main home, providing air sealing of the attic and home, installing a solar powered fan in the attic, installing R Value-49 insulation in the attic of the home, and air duct cleaning. These tasks were performed in a very efficient and professional manner. Todd and his crew are friendly, hardworking, and provide quality results. I'm pleased to have been associated with them and will have Elite Insulation back for a future project."

"Roberto was the technician and he was very professional, polite, and personable. He inspected the rest of our system and told us things that needed to be changed or repaired. He showed me pictures of everything. Everything he told me about was accurate. He quoted me a price for R38 insulation , Some of our ducts were plastic and he recommended them to be changed. I agreed completely and didn't know they were plastic. I would have had them done the work but I had no price comparisons to make and besides I didn't have the money right then. So he just finished the vent cleaning and left his card. He did a great job on the vent cleaning and was happy with the work."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

It’s best not to install a radiant barrier directly under insulation because it requires an air gap on at least one side to work properly. Instead, you should install the radiant barrier over your existing insulation to create an air space to reflect the radiant heat.

Ductwork sweats due to a temperature difference between the air inside the ducts and the surrounding air, similar to how a cold drink develops condensation in the heat. This sweating is a sign that your HVAC system is not operating at peak efficiency. The best way to keep ductwork from sweating is to wrap it in proper insulation, which also improves your system's energy efficiency. Another option is to close off your crawl space and install a dehumidifier to dry the air and lower its dew point.

In some cases, yes, insulating an unheated garage can lead to mold and mildew. The issue with insulating a garage is that the interior will warm up and cool down more slowly than the exterior air, which can cause condensation inside the space. Where there is moisture, there is likely to be mold and mildew over time. Installing a vapor barrier can help avoid moisture and mildew problems in an insulated garage.

The cost of installing spray foam insulation is $2,760 on average, but this cost can be as low as $650 or as high as $7,700. The main cost factor is the size of the insulated area and the type of spray foam insulation.

Polyurethane spray foam costs between $0.44 and $1.50 per board foot, where a board foot is equal to the volume of a one-foot length of a board. More expensive options, like soybean or vegetable oil spray foam, range from $1.50 to $3.00 per board foot.

Most insulation lasts 15 to 20 years, but it really depends on the type of insulation. Spray foam is a permanent insulation material that can last up to 100 years. Fiberglass and cellulose typically settle, shift, or deteriorate around 15 years. Once your insulation reaches the 15-year mark, it's time to check it for signs of needing to be replaced.
